does anyoen know if there is a way to apply for a means-tested loan without your parents being involved?
my parents don't send my moey anyway and basically have nothing to do wth my life. But I still have to include them andthey just this as leverage over me... is there a way to get a loan without them? I've been looking online but I cant find anything...

It's so sad to hear that so many of you are struggling so much and regretting uni.
I've been through some awful **** during my time at uni, had to do a lot of deferring and handing things in late and eveng gave myself a nervous breakdown over work in the first year but i still don't regret being here.

18months? I've lived away from them for 6 years... I had lived away from them and bearly spoen to them for 3 yars before coming to uni but the loan company insisted I got back in touch to be able to get a means assessed loan...
Maybe I explained the situration to them incorrectly

I got my grades from Uni today, I got 4 A's and 1 D, I am far from pleased, but at least I will not have to take anymore literature courses (the course I got the D) and I am glad because I have very poor memorization skill when it comes to literature even if though I studied so much for that stupid course.

To be classed as independent you need to have been living and supporting yourself for three years prior to the start of your course.
And ONE DAY until the dissertation is due in. I think I'm pretty much finished apart from the finishing touches and making it look nice. I think I'm going to miss it.

Yeah i hated my first year because i only managed to hand in 4 out of 10 essays in on time. But once i got my results i felt ok.
Just a bit overwhelemed and trying to catch up... makes me feel down.
Katters- I like your quote, I have one of hers stuck up somewhere in my uni room.

I was living alone and suporting myself for 3 years before the start of my course...
I came to uni at 19 and moved out from my parents house at 16... And hadn't even spoken to my parents since i was 17...
but when i spoke to the oan cmpany they said i had to get back in touch with my parents or get a non-means assessed loan... the only way round it they said was to get 2 professionals outside of my family to confirm that my statment was true... or to show that i had been on benefits prior to being 18, but I hadn't been on benefits and I couldn't find anyone to write statments...
I've decided I hate the loan company

Well I can where they are coming from that you would need to provide proof of independent status, especially since independents get more money. If there was no proof needed then everyone would claim to be independent.

no I can see the reasons too. It just someof the things they listed to use as proof or to use as a seperate way to clame independence were a bit rediculas.
do independents get more money? I didn't know that... I thought they just used your income rafer than your parents

Well obviously it will depend on your household income, but I think they do get more money. I'm doing my travel expenses at the moment, and independents can claim more for those.

It's a SAAS thing. People who commute can claim back some of their travelling expenses.
