What is RSS?
As defined by Wikipedia, RSS (acronymic for Really Simple Syndication) is essentially a hosted XML file from which your RSS newsreader pulls headlines, URLs, and other content as it is updated. At RYL, these RSS feeds allow members to stay up to date on RYL, without even having to visit! It gives you feeds (updated every minute) of all new Threads created in all forums or individual forums, which can be picked up by browsers, email clients, software and many other devices! It also proves very useful if you have a mobile device such as a PDA or Blackberry since it is ultra low bandwidth.
Don't have RSS software?
To get started, you'll need to download and install a free RSS newsreader client. Many are available (some as browser extensions); see Google's list here. Point your software to URL of the RSS feed by copying the link after clicking the orange icon, and you're done!
RYL's Recommended RSS Reader
With a Google Personalised Homepage you can set your Google homepage up with RSS feeds where they are most handy. You can then make your personalised Google homepage your default homepage, meaning you can have your favourite RYL forums display content alongside useful feeds from other sites, whenever you open your browser to search!
