Yeah I don't think "cob" is particularly a northern thing... most people I know call it "bread".

Im from leicester and used to get a 'chip cob' occasionally, which my canadian husband found to be the most hilarious thing ever as chips aren't chips in canada and a cob is regional even in england :P
Apparently there's also something us leicester people call ketchup that nobody else calls it too...

Lol It's going to really bug me now, perhaps i should just ask a bunch of canadians here if they know what every single thing i can think of for ketchup means.
I said cob the other day and everyone stared at me....it was really uncomfortable XD

It's totally a bread bun, or a bread roll, and I'm from Yorkshire.

These things you're calling jitties are either snickets or ten-foots depending on where abouts they are. Although more than likely it's a ten-foot.

I think, and I may be wrong, that it's the passageway that goes down the back of houses, or between houses. Does that make sense?

Round Hull we'd call them a ten-foot or a snicket!

eugh I hate it when people call bread cob... it's like when people say "a" insted of "I" it just really gets on my nerves lol

People round where I used to live called alleys, snickle-ways. But I hated that too so just called them alleys

In general I am useless when it comes to regional slang so just don't use it. Other than Kerfuffleas I just think it's a funny sounding word lol
