Change MSN email?

I have just got this instant message;

Windows Live(TM) Messenger Service Staff says (01:00):
Important service announcement: As part of a recent system enhancement, we need you to change your e-mail address to continue signing in to the Windows Live(TM) Messenger Service.

To ensure that your access is not blocked and to learn more, go to http://support.microsoft.com/gp/Messenger/en

I don't know if it's real or not, & I can't find any help that doesn't cost $199 to achieve...so.. has anyone else been told this?

I got that too. It's really weird. It can't be a hoax because it's sent from a genuine microsoft address and links to the real microsoft site, but the page it links to is from 2006.

Yeah, that's what I was confused about.
I don't really want to change it tbh.
So I emailed the address I got IM'd from, and am waiting for a reply.

That's weird!!!! MSN won't let me sign on today, but I don't know if it's related or just MSN being weird.

just send a message to hotmail help... that's what did last time i had trouble with hoax e-mails

hmm.
I think back in 2006 they started allowing companies to register domains for msn, then only people in that company can use that domain in their msn address. If anyone else already had that domain in their msn address they had to change it, and that's what that page is all about.
It seems like hotmail.com has recently been marked as a domain owned by a company, so now everyone with a hotmail.com address is getting messages from an old system which doesn't even work any more (if you follow the link to try to change your address, it won't work). I guess it's just a mistake by someone at Microsoft.
