so a few weeks ago I saw my doctor and she put in a referral... I was told it would take months...
but today I got a letter... got an appointment on the 13th of march!!!
a load of questionnaire s in the letter too... no idea what I'm meant to do with them... I mean there is an envelope, but it says nowhere wheitehr I fill them out and post them back or just take them with me on the day...
that and no idea how to answer half of the questions...
scared... really didnt think it would happen this fast...
hey, it happened fast for you like it did for me :) great stuff!
it is scary, but at least you've only got a few weeks to get nervous, not months. is it the Psychotherapy file you've got to fill in? (basically about traps, snags and dilemmas, or something).
i suppose if there's an envelope with it, it'd like you to send it back. but if you're stuck, maybe ask the psychologist when you see them. xxx
I'm assuming I need to post it as there is an envelope... hopefully if it's wrong it won't be too big a deal...
it's sort of like a "in the last week how often have you felt X" type thing... done some of it now... but a few of the questions are a little tricky...
in my experience, usually just a talk about what has led you up to therapy (as in, what sorts of things might you have experienced in the distant past and the more recent past, that have brought you to therapy). and perhaps also what you want to get out of therapy - goals to achieve. the psychologist might also want to get an idea of your family situation too. in my psychotherapy appointment i gave an indicator of past traumas leading to current self harm and difficulty with relationships, though not everyone feels comfortable giving lots of information initially and the therapist should understand that. xxx
i didnt get my pyschotherapy file until my first appt for the therapy when they decided what i needed.
can only speak from experience but my assessment entailed a 2 hr discussion with 2 psych's who asked me questions about me, family etc and then prompted me for the rest of it to discuss my sh, depression etc. i was suprised at how unscary it was...the people i saw were really nice which helped!
so pleased you have an appt and so quick!! let us know how it goes and of course any questions just ask
ooh and my advice for the questionnaire....be honest! with regards to sending it off, i didnt send anything off just gave it in at the appt....not sure it really matters, you could always ring and ask
xxxx
this pic is so i can always remember jen who was my l'il sock monkey friend who has left ryl and i miss her!!!
my letter just says it's at 2.30 and with 2 people, doesn't say anything about length... luckily the place it's at is like 10-15mins walk from my flat so guess isn't that importanthow long it is (as long as it's finished before it gets dark... can't go outside alone when it's dark...)
what sort of things will they ask? when I went to the doctors I got adviced to write a list of stuff, but as it was a 15min appointment I never got a chance to use it... should I do the some sort of thing for this? if so what sort of stuff should I include?
sorry for all the questions... I have basically a chronic fear of doing things wrong lol, like to know exactly what's expected of me in any particular situration... I know that's silly and unrealistic...

i'm totally the same so no problem.....a list may be a good thing. they basically went through my history:family and mental.....
so.....what is was like growing up, whether i had any problems at school., when things started to go wrong. what i have issues with,um.........my sh-ing history(mine was an assessment with the sh department, so may alter if this isnt why you were referred)
um....... (sorry have had jet lag since the appt).....nothing is expected of you, they try to make you as comfortable as poss and give you a break if needed. you will be suprised at how quickly the time goes!

don't really know much family history wise... most of my family don't get on with one another...
will they ask why I started SIing? I don't think I could tell them that... not at first anyway... hope they won't ask to see my scars either... I mean they can see my arm, but no way I'm removing my trousers for my legs...
anyway... guess should try to put it out of my mind, otherwise will be a wreck by the 13th lol
Im in Aberdeen too and im seeing a psychologist at Cornhill which is i assume where youve been referred . I had the questionnaire to fill in beforehand too but it wasbt mentioned in my appt . My initial appt was with just 1 person ( my psychologist ) it was a 1 hour appt and was just about getting to know you and wht you want to get from psychology and they spoke a bit about what they do etc . Hope you get on well

I'm having an initial assessment on the 9th... I can let you know how that goes for me if you like? It'll be like my 3rd or 4th "initial assessment" but eh, I keep moving. I'm taking my questionnaire with me if that helps, but it might be worth calling them to check- they may wish to analyze the results before you go in, so they know more what to expect.
Wake me up before I change again
Remind me the story that I won't get insane
Tell me why it's always the same
Explain me the reason why I'm so much in pain.
yeah i thought it was a bit odd too. the only time i was seen in a joint appointment was when i was first seen by the CPNs

My first ever initial assessment (with CAMHS, so years and years ago), I had both a clinical psychologist and a psychiatrist. That might be the loads of letters...
