and as jack hasn't decided yet if we are living together or apart once we've moved there isn't much I can do about finding a new place... and I have no money right now... so how can I pay a deposit???
can you go to the council explain the situation. they will put you in temporary accomodation. if you receive benefits they will help pay any deposits/rent you need to.
alternativley go to your local C.A.B and ask for their advice.
sorry im not much help
i still find each day too short for all the thoughts i want to think, all the walks i want to take, all the book i want to readand all the friends i want to see. john burroughs
leedschick is my drinking buddy and my best friend <3
Well it breaks my heart to see you this way,
The beauty in life, where's it gone?
And somebody told me you were doing okay,
Somehow I guess they were wrong.
What you need to do is go to your local council and fill in a housing application and also declare homelessness to them on the grounds that you are shortly going to lose your tenancy on a private rental. They will interview you with regards to your homelessness - this is done privately. I can't really speak to their actions if you tell them you are being evicted, since I don't know why you are being evicted. You should take with you any documentation pertaining to your tenancy and eviction, and also anything that will support claims of vulnerability - doctors letters for psych appointments, etc.
Usually they will try and find you a place in temporary accommodation, especially if they feel you are vulnerable - anything from a hostel to a night shelter referral. This is not guaranteed though, mainly due to a shortage of spaces, and some of the places, from my own experience are not particularly pleasant, and their only advantage is you won't freeze sleeping in a shop doorway or the like.
The information you give them is used to assess your claim of homelessness on four points:
1. Are you homeless or threatened with homelessness?
2. Are you in priority need? (Mental illness is a priority need - as are all of the following: physical disability; learning difficulties; pregnancy; aged 16-26; homeless due to emergency such as fire or flood; discharged from hospital, prison or the regular military; fleeing abuse.)
3. Are you intentionally homeless?
4. Do you have a local connection with the area you are applying in?
It varies from area to area, but here in Wales they can take up to 56 days (just as a rough timeline, Scotland is probably different) to make a decision on a case, during which time they have a legal obligation to help you with temporary accommodation.
You can get more independent advice about homelessness from your local CAB or from Shelter. You can find more information at your local council's website too.
On a more personal experience note - don't be afraid to exploit any avenue you can to get their help. I'm not saying lie or anything like that, but the more advantages you can make for yourself, the better. Even if it means doing uncomfortable stuff like putting SI right in their face. The local authority can be really devious in discharging their responsibility to people.
council say they can't do much as I'm a student... uni say can't do much (in part as not paid tution fees yet)... emailed landlord several times, trying all day to get in touch with Jack, phoned aberdeen CAB and going to see them wedensday... and they won't ket me in the hostel for "insurance reasons" due to the SI ect...
I'll be back in Aberdeen in 17hours... hopefully I can sort more then
thankyou all for your replies, not trying to put them down or whatever, but every place I try for help seems to come up with an excuse not to help me...
also, I don't technically have a contract... we moved in before it was drawn up, then there was an issue with it so got delayed then our landlord left the country and we heard nothing more of it...
we've been evicted on the grounds of irregular rent, as in it's not always paid on the 1st (though each time I have explained a week in advance that it may be a few days late and why) and I owe the landlord a fair bit (whcih I've promised I'll pay as soon as I get student loan), and 2 months ago my boyfriend suggested moving so I asked landlord about how long a notice wed have to give then nothing more happened so he's getting impatient with us...
but right now I have NO money... nothing at all... having to blag my way back up to aberdeen as even a train costs more than I have
actually dreading it... never felt like this before... I love aberdeen... I usually get homesick when away from it, but today I don't want to go back... the last few months have been so bad that I just want to stay here now... despite not getting on with my parents, despite my degree... I just don't want to have to go back and deal with all that again...
degree, relationship, rent, landlord, bills, work (got a job finally start next week)... it's all been too much recently, I'm not sure I can face it again
This website has a list of organisations that might be of help to you.
Students notoriously get a rough deal off the authorities, since the council seems to be under the impression all have supportive parents behind them to sort out all the problems. Getting any kind of financial aid if you are studying seems to be nigh-on impossible.
I've managed to convince our landlord to let us stay a little longer... had to pritty much bankrupt yself to do it, but atleast for a few more week before being homeless/to find a flat
Location: Spain... but would rather be in England at home :)
I am currently:
Hey! I really hope you get something sorted soon. I know what the student loans company are like... Try and ring them and see why they aren't giving you the loan...
sorry I'm not much help, just wanted to let you know I'm thinking of
you. x

Hopefully, that will give you the time you need to find something else. I meant to say, be sure to ask the landlord for written notice - it'll be helpful if you have it in writing when approaching any organisation.
ends up that the reason I don't have my loan yetis that the loan company contacted my uni regarding my degree change and have not had a reply... apparently they've been waiting 3 weeks... So I went to registry and they gave my an email address to contact so I did and heard nothing...
really not sure what else I can do...
got a job finally... start in 2 weeks... well... I start once the restuarnt opens, which is estimated at 2 weeks...
not rerally sure what to do now though... had to underpay my landlord again today rent wise... only got 50p left in my account now and been told if nothing goes in by end of week they'll freeze my account :O
Hey, really sorry to hear about your situation.
I don't know about Aberdeen but in Glasgow Uni if you went to the student association (can't remember what you call it - I left a long time ago) they would help you in this situation (they could also advise you on help with fees).
Have you been in person to a council office? I went when I needed a place and seeing someone face to face really helped. I don't see why they won't help a student, if they won't that is really really mean.
I really really hope you get everything sorted out.
