early intervention team

i got a letter yesterday and have an assesment with the early intervention in psychsis team on friday over video call

I've only seen this team once before, and to be hoenst i didn't really see them see them that time as they came to the house, knocked on the door, and i hid in the bathroom as was too scared to open the door...

so... basically what I want to know is what sort of stuff are they likely to ask? What are they likely to do? etc etc etc... I get very nervous and paranoid over things when i don't know what to expect... i've tried googling but i don't feel any more sure of what's happening

any info, or just reasurance, from anyone who' had dealing with them would be greatly appretiated

I was under them as a teenager.
They were very much like the cmht but a lot better and more understanding.
That's all i can remember really

I'm fine! Totally fine. I don't know why it's coming out all loud and squeaky, 'cause really, I'm fine!

Who else is fine?!?!?

rediculous thing is i do want help, i just dont like the uncertainty... and i am 99% certain I don't have psychosis... ok so i hear a voice, but i know it's not real so my GP said it's not a big deal. Seems that IAPT didn't agree when I told them about it though... feel a bit lied to as IAPT said they were referring me, but they enver mentioned the ealry intervention team, first i knew of this was the letter yesterday

Yeah was with them for just over 4 years. Like Beckie said they're like the CMHT.

The assessment, they'll just ask questions regarding thought process, mood, medication if you're on any, they asked me why they thought I was referred I think. Just like a regular assessment but more psychosis based.

Hi OP

Basically the same as what other people have said. They will ask you whether you see/hear etc things that other people don’t, if you ever feel anyone is watching you or listening on you, if you have ever thought people are reading your mind, or that you can read their mind. If you ever get messages through screens or radio etc. If you have ever believed yourself to have a special mission etc.

The assessment will also ask about sleep, appetite, motivation, usual kind of mental health assessment but a lot of it will be about psychosis related symptoms. They will also ask about your family history, any stressors, any forensic or notable medical history, drug and alcohol misuse etc. And also what you would like to happen following the assessment.

The assessment might be with one or two people. EIP itself is usually similar to CMHT, in that people usually have a care coordinator but they are much more intense in the support and holistic in the support they offer. They work intensely with people experiencing their first ‘episode’ of psychosis and offer more varied and intense support than the CMHT usually does for a set period of time (usually around three years).

They will probably also ask you what (if any) treatments you’ve tried in the past etc and how long ago you started to experience symptoms etc.

Hope this helps.

Some EIPs also offer a service called the ‘at risk service’. So for people who are showing signs that MIGHT suggest they could be at risk of developing psychosis in the future based on current mental health experiences. The idea is to support the person to manage their symptoms in order to reduce the chance of that happening. It’s a really excellent service but it’s not in all EIP services yet.

thanks for the replies. I get very nervous when I don't know what to expect or when I have to "meet" new people so this is stressing me out more than it possibly should do

I do feel a little better about it now though.

I think that’s understandable and I’m sure they will be very aware that a lot of people are anxious etc. It’s ok if you need to take a break during the appointment or end it early and rearrange for another day. Nobody, including the EIP person will judge you

went ok, the guy ended up agreeing with me that its not psychosis. His theory is it;s all an extreme reaction to anxiety, so he's referred me back to the CMHT
