Low Latent Inhibition

I feel like I am the only person in the world who has problems with this. Is there anyone else out there?

Inhibitions that aren't visable or are lying dormant? I don't know to be honest...sorry. Is there anyone you can talk to?

I'm not sure what 'low latent inhibition' is to be honest, and I'm kinda interested in finding out more.

I dont suppose you could give us a quick rundown on it?

It may help others to know exactly what you are talking about in case they have that condition, but know it by another name.

Google told me it's where people cannot filter out any incoming stimuli, so it's sort of like potential overload.

... I think I've explained it right.... ?

I'm not very good at describing it to other people so you might wanna try google or something but basically latent inhibition is when you block out information. Low latent inhibition is when you do that less. Everyone is blocking out TONS of information all the time without realising it. But I just take it all in.

I get kind of similar with my PTSD hyper-vigilance, from having to be acutely aware of my surroundings to protect myself the best I could when I was growing up... I am also acutely sensitive to sound - from growing up around domestic violence, and being innately extra sensitive due to being born very premature.
I know it's not quite the same, but I can relate to some degree, at least. :)

LLI

well ive had LLI since i was small (about 6), and its almost impossible to describe to someone how complicated it is, my doctor has said the simple way to see it is, some people think inside the box, and some thing outside the box. LLI patients do both at the same time. she also gave me a sheet understanding the condition....

"...The LLI (low Latent Inhabition) illness is a alteration in the brain which enhances the collection of infomation (stimuli). meny LLI patients will have an averege IQ of 135-140, any lower IQ than 115 Is seen as a possible outcome for insanity.

as the Brain of a person with LLI will collect more, the person looses certon communications with other people, though the colleciton of infomation enhances the memory and creative side of the person.

LLI Patients are given a Test of somekind to determin there state of insanity risk, which will ether be 1-5. 1 being worse(your docter will know what grade you are after the test)."

although this has never helped me fully understand my condition, it is the nearest thing i can find to an answer.

never heard of it but i kinda feel like that sometimes. like i take in everything, think of every possibility, which can also give everything meaning. i'm not sure if that has anything to do with the illness you mentioned, i'm now curious to google it lol but yeah that's the only way i can relate to what i think you guys are saying.

well LLI has affected my emotional part of the brain making me very depressed alot of the time, though my doctor gave me tablets to reverse the effect, and yes, because im grade 2 which is a high grade case i have mental checks with the docter and she makes me do certon things which make the brain calm itself down. in the sheet, it says to have at least 10-12 hours sleep a day to rest the brain and reduce any mental problems.

if you think you have this, go get checked out!. in grade 3 or above theres a 60% chance you will progress mental issues in your 40's-50's. its better to be safe than sorry

How does one find out if one has this? What test?

If the Human brain were so simple that we could understand it, we would be so simple that we wouldn't.

I don't have LLI but I have sensory overload (sometimes called Sensory Integration Dysfunction) due to autism and from what I've read there is some overlap.

Here is some info about sensory issues in autism http://www.nas.org.uk/nas/jsp/polopo...?d=2427&a=3766

So I do understand what it is like to find the world utterly overwhelming and painful.

to get tested for this, go to any docter's or GP, tell them you think you may have LLI and thell ether find a person who's qualified in the area or do it themselfs.

Albemare:
yeah i know what you mean, i was thourght to have that at first, but after ferther test's it came out as LLI. mabie due to both are very closely related .

I think I get similar... my doctor said it was a form of "anomalous experience" which really doesn't help...

I get it alot in cinemas... I get anxious and this makes it seem as if all my sences are magnified... so the screen will be unbareable to look at, the sound deafening... if someone opens a bag of sweets it will be asif an explosion occured... someone will whisper in the next row and I'll hear it word for word as if they are speaking normally and right next to me...
Get it on public transport too... which is one of the reasons I no longer use it...

It's not quite the same though I know... it only happens to me if I'm anious, or if we're in a state of never co-consiousness, though in the latter it's not to bad as we can "share out" the incoming stimuli so only get a headache rather than the feeling of going mad...
so ye.. not the same, but can relate to a degree. can't imagine what it would be like if it was constant rather than triggered by things...

I don't have this but I have a problem blocking sound out.

Like I can hear things that people normally don't notice and would only hear if they listened for it if that makes sense? Like my computer is humming and I can hear it humming but if my dad came into the room or my mum or whoever they wouldn't hear it. It really affected me at school and things because I couldn't concerntrate on work cause I'd hear all the stupid noises of electronics buzzing while in 'standby' and people on the stairs down the corridor and stuff. It's part of my learning difficulties (I think it's to do with ADHD but could be dyspraxia/dyslexia i forgot)

sounds quite annoying :(. have you had any type of programs with your docter?, if im not mastaken your GP/ docter should be able to help focus your senses onto the things you want to.

Group

I finally found some people who have this problem. I have it too and it is hard to talk to people about it. They say stupid things like "focus harder" or "you jump around too much." Brendon, you definetly have it. Can we form a group to talk about how each of us deal with it?

I struggle to block out noise and touch properly, hallways are a living nightmare for me. I find that sometimes I ultra focus though, like I can only focus on one thing and can't concentrate on anything else. It probably has to do with my Autism.

People don't hear the computers buzzing? Wow, I thought that was normal. It bugs me when I have headaches, but usually I can pretend it's like a fan, which is a noise I'm used to.

Magic, this is a part of LLI. We are very hyper sensitive to things... noisy, even the rims of your glasses... most people can not notice it after awhile... LLI people can't... but the good thing, as long as you keep yourself involved, you can handle lots of things at once. Someone else replied that not everyone hears them... that is how I felt when I found out I have this ... problem... condition?? I went to my wife and help my mug cup and asked what she sees.... she said a cup... and I said... and? she stared at me and said.. just a cup... I laughed... and then got interested... started asking her things when we drove down the road... like ... what did you see on that street? She couldn't say anything... where as Brendon will tell you... we see the leaves... bicycle chains... cracks the concrete... how the vines hang... just about everything you can imagine....
But I want to form a group because I am not 35... I own 3 companies... I have a family and some friends... but things are getting worse... doctors, again, like Brendon can support me, are simple minded, one track focusing people who have a fancy piece of paper that says they are more elite than anyone else.... but couldn't tell you have just about anything else in this world functions... where they just want to pump you full of medicine if you don't think, function or look like them!
I don't know if it will help me but it might help people in the future who need to understand how others deal with it... I think those who are aware of this problem understands that there is no fix... but some of us know what makes things a little easier. I often use Skype and would love to form a conversation group... because... as anyone who has this problem knows how mundane typing is... just as mundane as the studies at school used to be and how I could not understand why the teacher was trying to explain things that were just there... common sense things... my skype name is ohg.llc and if you want me to add, just but LLI in the comment section or else I will think it is just another spammer and decline. Let's talk and maybe make something of this.
