Failed by the nhs BBC3

Currently watching this on BBC 3. Its sad to hear storys of the UK's health system failing Id had bad experiences with the NHS with mental health and physical health but Iv recently had a very good experience with mental health. What do you think about this program? Have any of you personally had bad experiences with the NHS or very a very good experience? Do you think its to do with the doctors themselves, their knowledge of mental health or to do with the lack of resources and time medical personnel are given?

Generally its been good. And I've had a lot of involvement with the nhs.

It seems to all come down to there not being enough staff, and they've closed/are closing so many of the hospitals.

Last week, I had to be in A&E, I asked them in plenty of time to try and find some medication that I needed to take and hadn't brought with me because I wasn't expecting the waiting times. It was 4 hours and they still hadn't looked for my medication and I ended up having a seizure. It could have happened because of the missed dose, it could have happened anyway. But still wasn't great.

There aren't enough staff. There aren't enough hospitals.
People attend A&E departments when they really don't need to.

I like the nhs, and its great that we have it, but there aren't enough staff and there aren't enough hospitals for a rapidly growing population.

As much as we complain about the nhs (we are all guilty of it!)
We are lucky to have it.

I'm fine! Totally fine. I don't know why it's coming out all loud and squeaky, 'cause really, I'm fine!

Who else is fine?!?!?

I agree that the NHS is a amazing thing that we have and its like a bad shop.. people are more likely to tell you of the bad rather than the good. Its worrying that the cuts are making staff struggle so much and i'm sure its the great doctors and nurses and student nurses that are pushing themselves to the limit. Its shocking to hear what patience have been told by some doctors though, you'd think that with the cuts they would want the best doctors not just on paper but well rounded people.

just watched this on Iplayer. Found it very interesting. Sort of want to find the girl in York who's setting up the eating disorder charity, I am basically semi-recovered now but I know how little help there is in York from searching in the past so would be interested in finding out more about her plans and maybe even offering assistance. Google has given little other than a newspaper article on her though...

in general the program just confirmed my suspicions - funding is the biggest issue

I watched half of this but I got so bored as it literally was the conversation that I've had with so many people, and confirmed exactly how I feel. I am grateful for the NHS, just not the way it approaches mental health in general.

Yeah I agree with what everyone else has said. I am grateful we have the NHS. IT saves lives and helps so many people, with the ideas and plans being great. But practically it's too expensive to be able to run at its full potential. If there was the funding to open enough hospitals and have them fully staffed, the staff would have the time to be as caring as I'm sure they all wish they could be, and could be thorough in all they do. I like most have had my definitely not so ideal experiences with the NHS, but at the same time I have also had a couple of amazing experiences. And those amazing experience were cause the Staff took time out of their lives to go that extra mile (well if they were fully staffed it wouldn't really be the extra mile, but you know what I'm getting at)

So yeah, so grateful for it and appreciate the few brilliant staff I've come voer, but there has been more than once that it has royally pissed me off.
