does anyone here use it? are you fluent or just starting out?
I've just enrolled on an online course for the summer, to learn the basics. I've always wanted to know sign language, becuase my grandad is deaf and even when I was little I thought it unfair. Now I have 3 months of summer to give it a stab!
....or I will do once they unban my IP. They banned me for 'hacking'. I was a bit like :|
I've always wanted to learn, but not online. When I move to London I might see if there are any courses because I'd like the feedback on if I'm doing it right.
and yeah I wanted to learn in a classroom but it's hard to find courses around here. And this online thing is actually really good. I can now count to 100 and know the colours (in addition to knowing the alphabet and how to spell stuff which I already knew)

I use BSL and Makaton daily at work, i know most of the basics and also have a sign language for dummies book to learn some more phrases.
I try and learn about 5 new words every week or so. A lot of the kids i work with have no communication apart from makataon( sign language for children, mainly autistic children) but what is hard is when they make up their own sign language :p
American Sign Language is my first language, & I'm fluent. Have considered learning BSL, but it's never the same. That & I don't actually know any deaf people, so wouldn't have anyone to practice with. I would rather learn from a deaf person than from school tho.

I used to be good at it as our school had a separate block for deaf children.
Gotten really rusty at it now but still know the basics. Have been advised to take lessons in it, but blah.

I know bits and bobs, which I've learnt from books and from people who know BSL. Reaaaalllllyyyyy want to learn loads more though! Will try to hunt out a good course in London for the next academic year :)
I learnt sign language years and years ago (I was like 12 or something) but now can't remember much of it... I want to do a course in it, preferably a course with some form of cirtificate or something though as then could use the skill to be more employable. The courses are pritty expensive though
I shall have a look, thanks. I looked into that sort of thing a while back when lived elsewhere but got confiused by it - I can be abit slow when it comes to understanding written stuff lol
Its odd how it stays with you.
As I say, I dont remember much of it, but when I was ill in ICU and couldnt talk, I apparently started signing.
Even now, when I lose my voice, there are a few times, that I have signed thank you, without even thinking about it.
It's weird, since learning a few basics, when saying them to someone i've wanted to sign it aswell. even though they could hear me. strange.
I am terrible for doing this! Like if I've spent the evening signing with my friend the next day/later I carry on signing to all and sundry, hearing or not
