Options for getting medication

I wondered what other people have in place, to give me ideas on how to solve my problems.

I keep running out of my antidepressants, because of the appointment system (have to phone at 8.30am) and the pharmacy only collecting prescriptions once a week.

It seems to happen every month, I run out of tablets.

What support do you get, if you find it difficult to get out to get your prescriptions? I don't have any family or friends who can help.

I have a reminder in my calendar and diary to put in a request at least a week before I run out. That way, the request is dealt with before the time when I run out.

The pharmacy, if they do repeat collections, can also do regular repeats if you explain to them that on x day of the month you would like them to do this for you.

Thanks for your reply. I don't have the antidepressants on repeat prescription unfortunately, I'm not allowed

What I do is make an appointment for 4 weeks away on my way out of the GPs from an appointment. Would that be an option? Until I started doing this I was always running out too

They used to let me, with a special 'note' from the doctor, but the receptionists don't allow this now - you have to phone on the day. Many days I'm not able to get to the surgery either.

Thanks for reply x

Could you talk to your Dr about it there may be something they can put in place for you?

When I had to get my meds weekly my doctor gave me an appointment on the same day and at the same time each week. That way I never was without them and I didn't have to fight to get an appointment, plus it was a way of checking in, generally if I didn't turn up they'd contact me.

I should think your GP could do something like that for you, as it's quite a common thing.

Sorry if that's not helpful. I hope you're okay

I know they're fussy about appointments because of the targets pushing them not to give appointments more than 24 hours ahead - but try talking to your Dr, they should be able to come up with something...

usally doctors themselfs can give appointments weeks ahead, the reception can only give them xx days ahead, so ask the doctor, or get an appointment a week earlier than you need one.

I spoke to GP yesterday who'd put my script in for collection by the pharmacy, which will deliver it to me. I can't remember what day it collects, it is only one day a week, so I might have a long wait. Today is the 5th day without any medication, and I'm wondering if it would just be easier to come off them completely.
