sertraline

ive been on 50mg sertraline for 2 weeks and ive had some side effects. i had immediate nausea for 2 days which passed but since then i have felt really spaced out, distant from everything else. i have no emotions or feelings etc, just sort of numb. i cant decide if its good or bad, coz it makes me feel pretty crappy not being able to feel anything.

i just wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar or any other side effects?

No, I haven't had any side effects from this. I've been on it for about 6 months.

I experienced apathy/numbness too.

Speak to your doctor about it, maybe it's the wrong med for you, or you're on too much?

I've been on sertraline for 4 years now, from 50-200mg and I've found it really helpful. No massive side effects either.

I reacted really badly to fluoxetine though.

Am now on 30mg Mirtazapine at night and 100mg Sertraline daily.

I'd talk to your prescriber about your worries xx

I've never been on sertraline before, but if it's making you feel that bad I suggest you bisit your doctor and see if he can change your dose or put you on another type of anti-depressant. x

Ive been on sertraline for over two years now. I have experienced those exact side effects but thankfully they were shortlived - they lasted about two weeks. Since then Ive had no terrible side effects. Sometimes I have trouble sleeping but it hasnt really affected me. I agree with the others, go see a doctor about your concerns and see if they can help you. Keep us posted hun! xx

I am meant to be on sertraline, sort of stopped taking it for no reason

but anyway when I was on it I go the numb thing, but it only lasted a few weeks. Once I had been on it long enough to get upto 200mg the only side-effect I had was extreme insomnia

I agree with everyone else though, speaking to your doctor about the side-effects would probably be the best idea

I'm on 100mg, increasing next month, but I feel spaced out, apathetic, achey and generally weird... oh and dry mouth. I'm not sure if this is normal...

^^ I wouldn't increase it then, I'd speak to your doc about it, those side effects are however very common & I'd wait until they either go away to increase it or if they get worse/more come up, I'd switch medications or lower the dose until your body can tolerate it & then when that happens, increase it.

Yeah for first few weeks I couldnt eat much or sleep much, it passed. Then took about 4-5 month on 150mg before I noticed any change. Wasnt necessarily any better, a change from crying about 10 times a day to just not caring. Just apathetic, blah, not giving a ****.

Talk to your psych, hopefully it will wear off. Dont stop taking them as you can get withdrawl symptoms. xx

I hope for nothing. I fear nothing. I am free.

I was taking 100mg Sertraline, just recently put up to 200mg. I've been on it since January. I haven't noticed any real side-effects and generally it's helped my mood, even if I'm not euphoric. If you're having suicidal thoughts then it's definitely good to see your doctor because SSRI antidepressants, of which Sertraline is one, has a known risk of increasing suicidal or self harm thoughts.
