ideas please?

ok so i have a photography website but its through a free builder site (webs) and i cant afford to buy the domain.

so i need ideas of how to get it out there more

once a month i send it to all my contacts on aol and on msn asking them to have a look and send it on. i know once a month sounds pushy but i am constantly adding more stuff so is needed.

so ideas anyone?????

i was thinking of getting like flyers printed and then putting them under windsreen wipers but the area im in isnt that great and its quite small-ish and alot of people who i went to school with bullied me and will recognise my name in the site name so dont really wanna risk it.

many thanks

x

Id definitely print flyers and post them through doors/put them up in shop windows/in the library/internet cafes etc.
Why are you worried that people you went to school with and bullied you will recognise your name? Id want the people who bullied me to see that I have a great site and have achieved something :)

Could you afford to put an ad in your local newspaper advertising your site?
Or maybe you have a local newsletter that would allow you to put an ad in.

i think i will put them in the libary and possible some shops if i ask nice enough

the bullies were evil and they would find one way to make my life hell no matter how successful i was.

the local newletter charges £10 a month and they only go out once a month and its only for our estate so not very big and then the eastleigh news thingy charges £20 a month and only does it once a month and sometimes doesnt even do that.

i hate my area

have you subbmitted your site to google, etc?

Also, go on yahoo answers next to the "Search For Questions" box, click on "Advanced". Enter in 1-2 keywords that are relevant to your site (e.g. photography), select "Open Questions", and then click "Search". Then for any relivant question submit and answer with a link to the site. Even if it's an old question so the OP won't see the reply, if people search for anything relivant to that thread/your site on yaho or google they may be dirrected to that thread and therefore to your site.

using social networking sites can be a fairly efficient form of publisity too.

erm... flyers under car windscreen wipers may not be the best thin to do... people get a little iffy about strangers touching their cars, and some may even claim it to be littering (I had a problem with people yelling I was littering last year wen doing some postering in town)

As your site is a photography one, how about advertising it on sites like DeviantArt? There are probably several other sites to, but can't think of them off the top of my head lol.

I can understand not wanting to advertise here people from your past may see, so maybe try local towns/villages/etc? anywhere really that has good travel links.
Also, if there are any events hapening in your area maybe get in contact with the organisers andoffer your skillls as a photographer in exchange for them promoting your website at the event in some way?

erm... I'll come back when think of more, bit tired and braindead right now lol

Just curious…why can't you buy a domain name for the site? I made a quick check and both www.rfieldphotography.com and www.rfieldphotography.co.uk are available (£19.98/£5.98 respectively for 2 years). At least if you get your own name and decide to move hosting company later you can keep the same address.

p.s. love the photos

just oticed it's a webs.com site. My website is too, I thought that they had a really small upload limit? Though may be wrong as don't upload things very often lol, but just thinking for photography surely a larger upload limit would be preferable
