I have a load of stuff to do, and it's just not getting done. 1 week until deadline day.

Can you just go and say "Hey look, this is my situation, what are my options?" and see what they say? Sometimes there are solutions that you didn't think of. At any rate, it can't hurt.

Shadow, speak ot people at the uni, explain everything that's happened. Telll them that you know you should have explained all this before but you had to prioritise what to sort out and finding somewhere to leave and dealing with your personal problems took precedence. Maybe they can let you retake the year in September or something?
Who did you speak to? Was it your course co-ordinator or the welfare people? Might be worth speaking to the welfare people just to see if they can 'back up your story', so to speak.
Your degree is worth fighting for. I know it's hard but don't just give up - there has to be some compromise you can reach with your uni.

When you say you can't take it again, is that because the uni won't let you or because you don't want to or because you can't afford to?
I'm really sorry things are so hard for you right now - I wish I had an answer for you.

I hate this degree... only doing it so I can get into medicine after... I'm re-sitting second year, and had to change degree to hide the fact that I failed as if I fail ANYTHING I can't get into do medicine...
that and there is noway the loan comapny will cover my secondyear for a third time...
I think that student loans cover, is it, the years of your original course, plus one extra year. So if you were doing medicine or vet-stuff (can't remember the name!), you'd get 7 years of loans + 1 = 8 years altogether.
One of my friends is in her 3rd 1st year and was offered loan - she turned it down so they'd cover her for the next two years, but if you're in second year it's only another two years to cover (assuming your degree is 3 years).
Might be worth asking at least. If they can cover you then it's one less factor to think about.

Oh yeah, UK unis are drastically different from American colleges :)
Changing degrees depends completely on the course and the university. For example, in my uni, if you want to change from maths to economics, you can do maths first year, and economics second&third year, and come out with an economics degree. But if you want to change from physics to history, you'd have to go back to your first year again, and do all three years.
I'm at a scottish uni... our degrees are 4 years and the first 2 are not hons, you apply to a school (department) rather than a course, so within that school you can change as much as you liek up til 3rd year... I changed from neuro-science to Physiology as I failed psychology, btu as I hadn't done 2nd year phys I had to re-do second year, but as changed degree can say I repeated due to degree change rather than fail
Okay, thanks for explaining Dreaming and shadow-light. I was getting confused with all of the changing courses talk and stuff... it's a lot different here in the US!!!
Errr.... I'm afraid I don't have any great advice to offer now. I think in the end, what really matters is that you figure out what will make you the happiest (in terms of finding a new course or whatever you want there).
And I have no idea how student loans work, so I've got no advice to give there and will leave it up to more qualified people....

looked into it a little as was thinking about doing second degree there (ended up seeming easier than doing it here) but decided against that due to costs
Yeah, I assume the costs would be too much (I mean that in an "I live in the US and my family's well-off enough and can barely afford college" way).
See, usually as a freshman (1st year) you pick if you want a bachelor's of arts or sciences. Then your first two years is general education based off of that, possibly with a few classes in your major thrown in.
Then your last two years are focused on your major / minor.
So if you change your major your first two years, you probably don't have to repeat anything. In your last two years, it might take you longer to graduate.
It's also not based entirely off of years... some people take less classes but more years to graduate. I will graduate in 4 years, but I went to a community college for 2 years to save money and then transferred.
