if you want to pour out your guts do it in r/v? i don't see a story about how your school peers bullied you or even a fictional story about how school peeers bullied you creative at all, a story about pixies yes, school peers bullying me, no. i understand these things are awful, but they put it in creative & expect lots of "oh what a great story" even when the writing it terrible & you want to give const crit, but you can't say that because they're writing about how school peers bullied them & they'll take it personally
my orignal example was about abuse & ive changed it to bullying, i am not making light of bullying t all, just an exampke.
hahahah circlejerk
sorry, i missed out the most cunning part: let them post in CC but as soon they put on the gut-pouring label it gets transferred to R/V which i agree, is more appropriate. something new to add to v4 i think some people prefer CC because...? not sure. if someone wants to explain that i'll try not to be dismissive.
Semi-autobiographical stories are not helpful in Creative Corner UNLESS the author is looking for constructive. critiscm. But, like the one and only Eirinn said, most of the time they are not.
If not, stick it in R&V or a journal (and if you want hugs and sympathy you can always then link it it in a post. For example, you make a post saying: I wrote a story about how bullying has effected my life. I want to help deal with what the bullying has done to me, and i found it a creative outlet - what else can I do? The story is here if anyone's interested).
Rather than just "this happened to me, but ima write it in a story and put it in CC so that i just get loads of "hugz hunni that must've been so awful hugs" etc.
As far as R&R goes; yes, it does glamarise. There is a big difference between me posting a link to Linkin Park's Numb in a "songs about self harm" thread and a "what is your favourite song at the moment" thread; and mostly R&R leans towards the latter; not the former.
If not, stick it in R&V or a journal (and if you want hugs and sympathy you can always then link it it in a post. E.g. I write a story about how bullying has effected my life, and I say I want help with this, and for more info you can see here blah blah blah).
Do you think it might be because you can get replies in CC? So people might be wanting some hugs and sympathy, thinly veiled through a story?
i think people are more inclined to put it in cc because it gets hugs, it gets so much attention those threads trundle along quite fast paced really.
the thing is, & why i don't like them so much, they push things that are more hopeful off the page pulling the whole feeling of that part of the forum down, it's not exactly a 'happy' place & nor do i feel it's particularly creative, anyone can write a sob story.
i get the idea of writing your life story, or a glorified version, i mean, i did that when younger, but it was for me, & to be fair, it didn't help at all.
I've never understood why people put that type of thing in the creative corner, wouldn't it be more suited in serious or in A&B if they are wanting support/understanding due to it?
I think songs about depression, SI, eating disorders, etc should be stuck to ranting/venting and journals only. Keep R&R for books, movies and TV shows only.

Reason: added stuffs
Y'know I don't think the problem with this is confined to RYL, I mean there's been a massive increase in books being published about people having shitty lives, I mean our local Waterstones even has a "tragic life" section. It's like misery porn and I loathe it. So I guess I'm interested if maybe RYL is symptomatic of a wider trend, or are RYLers just buying all these books from my waterstones?
I think the competitions hosted in CC did seem to be a good step towards trying to make thing more positive.
I find listening to music therapeutic. But that's ED stuff.
I also find letting the negative emotions out through writing is more healthy than using self destructive methods.
I do not like wallowing in self pity though. So Ideally, creative corner and R&R would be used for recovery purposes only.
But who the hell wants to mod that?!
i understand writing things down in healthy, fully support that, but i think there is a big difference between being creative in writing & talking about bully/abuse with writing.
can you see what i'm saying?
i mean you create a story for someone to relate to feel something, yet even writers who write professionally, i'm think of some truely disgusting books now, such a haunted by chuck palanuik or fragile things by neil gaiman the stories there can be fowl, but there is some humour or light to the writing, whereas a lot of the stuff written in creative corner isn't, it re-hash after re-hash or sob story, such as the tragic stories in waterstones.
there are some figures somewhere that prove that people don't really want to read countless books on the **** in life, i'm trying to think were it is, were i read it because statistics show that out of writers, people who won't make much money off their books are the ones that write their tragic tale down & try to sell it. i'll see if i can find it

Just wanted to agree with this.
And also, yes, I liked the competitions in CC too. I don't know if that's still happening (I know the last one I saw got very few entries, if any, but it was quite a difficult one I think!). I don't really look at a lot of the stuff in CC but it was a really positive kind of thing I think, and actually probably a good distraction for some people to work on a positive kind of creative them. :)

I think it should be used for all things, games, music, whatever. However, someone should be free to say something looks rubbish or was rubbish. Otherwise it's not really a very good review section.

The post what lyrics you're feeling thread I have mixed feelings on.
One one hand; it's not aimed soley at self-harm related lyrics. I could go and post lyrics going "lar de darrrr my life is ****ing amazing ha heee haaaa".
But I wouldn't.
Because, if my life was ****ing amazing, I wouldn't be wasting it on here. (Except for today because I am procrastinating doing work and chores).

i think in terms of r/r it can be fairly ok, it's just these sad threads get a lot more attention than the others.
for instance song about depression or whatever is a lot bigger than ones about more light hearted happy things. it's the books that worry me more than music & films.
i'm sure there have been reviews about people should see the french film skin i think it is, either way it's very graphic & i've only seen stills, & because it's french it's a very romantic film (from discussions about it) so it could be seen as glamourising self harm, & people still an say how awesome it is, when there are rules about glaourising self harm.
