I dont think you have to get person specific presents, just stock a few up then when there is an occasion just give someone something. At first i felt a bit cheap giving people stuff i paid a few quid for but then i just thought 1 - they will never know and 2 - it has a much higher rrp.

I think thats the thing i hate the most, what do people want I say screw what people want and get them something else, i got sick of the whole i want this and this and don't want that or that. Its the thought that counts and if they dont like it i just think well didn't spend that much anyway.

A lot of people wait because they might be wanting to buy nice gift sets, which tend to only appear around Christmastime. And if they have kids then they need to wait because if they buy something in May then the child will probably have lost interest come December!

Christmas sales for the gift sets, i got a few half price. Also i think its different if you have kids that are of that age where they "want" certain things, in that case people are better off saving during the year than maxing out their credit cards come christmas.

Ah, I like to get person-specific stuff. Especially since I often receive well thought out presents, so get myself in a right state trying to get them something with equal thought put into it!

See last year i did goodie bags for people but they where slightly person specific, everyone got a build a bear with an appropriate outfit and some other things. I just chuck everything into a box and decide nearer the time lol.

My problem is sometimes I buy things early on and put it in a 'safe place.' One year my cousin got his personalised present in April. He loved it though! But yeh he should have got it for his birthday in September then Christmas.... eventually it showed up

Christmas shopping now doesn't sound like a bad idea, actually. I always leave it until the last minute and get stressed out - would rather leave that time for doing some Christmas baking :)

I knit and crochet a lot of my gifts, especially for my hoards of godchildren. They often get a crocheted toy or a pretty jumper. I love to do things like this when I relax so it's an all-year process.

As for things I buy... I buy them as and when I see them. I'm one of those painfully organised nerds who doesn't like to pay full price for things she can get cheaper.

But the motto is 'the perfect gift needn't be expensive' and if you plan, it's often half price!

Whenever I go into the sales they never have anything good left! It's all the crap or the really expensive stuff.

Aww, that's a really sweet idea! May steal the goodie bag idea!

Talking of sale shopping, I always buy reduced christmas cards and wrapping paper. Unfortunately it tends to get out of hand, so I'm pretty sure I've got no less than 10 rolls of christmas paper hoarded away at my parents' house :p

Why would I want to think about Xmas any earlier than I absolutely have to. I hate what it's become.

i dont get a choice, if i mail off stuff in december/november it misses christmas and gets there in january so i generally send things off home begginging of october to minimise risk of it getting lost or not being there. Therefore i start my shopping early to get the best deals on things :) I always do my husbands stuff last minute tho

Oh blimey, it's a bit early! I'm hoping to go next week but not sure I want to be confronted with Christmas just yet.
