In regards to chat.. Liv is often very keen for different chat ideas. It might be worth maybe suggesting over exam times (whenever they are) or intake times (whenever that is).. if members are keen, that uni chat room be opened temporarily for members to discuss uni related things in 'real time' so to speak.

And maybe during the new intake there could be a room for the new uni students to discuss with existing uni students what to expect and that.
Indeed!I shall make my own thread in a sec offering people the chance to bombard me with chat ideas :]

But that would mean continuously refreshing, and I cannot subscribe to a thread that has yet to be created, but might be just as urgent, hence why Live Forum View is so wonderful.

The way I see spam is as someone maliciously taking up space and posting nonsense. Most of the posts on RYL are people getting to know each other.

Ah. See, I would say Spam was something that here detracted people who wanted help from getting it.

RYL has become very un-supportive recently, and I do feel that the high level of spam has contributed to that.

I will come back when I have nothing constructive to say.

But I agree with the others - spam is VERY annoying when in LFV. It makes me miss alot of posts.

I think that depends on your point of view.

I dont think spam is malicious, but a lot of it is posting nonsense, whether thats what helps people get to know each other or not.

Live forum view is lame in as much as if you put a thread on ignore, it still shows up on it.

In terms of spam in general.. it did reach a stage where the same people were having lots of general chatter conversations across several threads, however, i have noticed that since the uni student thread is back on track, and the chatty chat chat (think thats what its called) thread was created in general, it has been hugely contained.

Agree!

I feel like the high levels of spam are contributing to RYL having increasingly incapsulated groups of people....it can come across as pretty intimidating if youre not one of the people that spams the threads.

When I joined RYL-families were popular, and people complained they were too clickly. Now it feels like there is one big family (the uni student thread) and everyone else is an outsider who doesn't deserve support.

It was especially annoying when 3/4/5 people where having conversations/similar conversations in several threads at the same time.

i've noy really noticed this happening... though i rarely use live view so i guesswvould notice it less... what could be useful is if there was a way to sort of hide certain things from live chat, so you could ignore the more "spammy" threads or ignore general chat in general or whatever as that would make it easier to veiw he other posts. I dont think that can be done right now but maybe it could be a feature for the future?

it does seem odd that ignored threads still appear of live view... you'd think if a thread was ignored it would be ignored everywwheere

If something is so urgent it cannot simply wait for you to refresh subscribed threads or refresh the serious board then really an online forum is not the place to be, that person needs an ambulance.

Just saying, my 2nd meet (I think) was in London and there were a group who called themselves the cool table and none of those people were uni student thread- in fact those of us who were opened up and talked with other members.

Can this thread please go back to its purpose of looking for a satisfactory solution to the issue in the first post? I keep trying to make it an easy list which makes sense for all but this isn't occurring.

I don't think their is an easy list

Every member has the right to request their thread be deleted or locked.

If it is a big thread and the member wishes the thread to be deleted a lag of say 24 - 48 hours be given so members can salvage posts.

If the thread is to be locked that lag time doesn't need to happen as posts are visible.

If a threadmaker is on the CT and asks for advice on a thread they don't ask for the thread to be locked at the same time, discusssiony posts that start in the CT tend to get abbreviated and taken to the main boards for discussion especially if it effects general members.

If a threadmaker has an issue and wants discussion but the thread locked in the meantime the threadmaker can create a discussion in f and cq.

and yep.

I still think above all that the thread starter has the right to have their thread locked whenever they like without a cooling off period or anything else.

This.

I don't think they should ALWAYS have to explain their reasons either, it could be something personal that they don't want discussed on the internet.
