I have nothing to add to this conversation now apart from to inform you all that if I do ever need to leave RYL for reasons that are beyond my control and my account needed deleting, I would let you all know.

* For all multi-user support threads to have a warning period of 24hrs before closing OR for them to be 'owned' by the community.
if a member requests their thread be deleted or closed, it will be done. If the reasons for this thread had been that Katy needed her account deleting for confidentiality reason or whatever then there would have been another thread made by a mod to carry it on.But surely the decision could be made to wait 24hours and give warning to users of the thread- it is different if its for confidentiality reasons!
* For better communication when situations such as this occur, ie not kept in mod-land, at least an acknowledgement for PMs
Agree regarding the pm.. apologies again. however, this thread was not kept in mod land. it was closed upon request and then the discussion was taken straight to the community team To be fair Charlie, I wasn't massively expecting a reply from you as you are about to burst so I am not annoyed at that, but lack of communication before and the discussion thread being in CT where not many people can see it.Again I'm sorry I didn't reply it wasn't my plan to have this happen as Charlie was about to pop I said I would take the PM's I have a life outside of ryl I'm sorry. Re. it being in the CT that's where members posted and suddenly the thread was locked if this thread had been made or I had been inundated with pm's then I probably would have suggested it but I got 5 members pming me if that.
* For at least one post to be made in the thread if something (ie spamming) is becoming a problem.....
Also agree, however, as Cam mentioned before, this thread had never been flagged to the moderators as being spam laden or having had any issues what so ever, hence a 'please dont spam' post not being made by ourselves. It was literally closed at request, as is our policy to do. This list is not just for mods though I was thinking that perhaps if Katy felt it was all spammy or anyone else then they could post a warning?!What Charlie says goes for the CT to

ok once again I may be being thick here but when someone requests a thread to be closed surely they give a reason generally? So if they say "I want it closed as I am leaving" then yes fair enough making a new thread is for the best, but if on the other hhnad they say "I am unhappy with the dirrection in which the thread is going" then maybe the best sction would be to speak to those invovled in the thread to see if a solution can be reached before closing it? Of course if it's just a case of requests appearing without reasons then I can understand why the former is done prior to discussion - to be on the safe side as it were. But in my mind surely when requesting a thread closure someone has to give a reason/justification for the request?

Wait, there had been some issues last year in which members came into the thread and started using it as the safe room and I did contact the mods for advice on how to deal with it as people felt uncomfortable posting in there and it turned into a member feeling like I hated them just for making a request to stop the abuse of the page.

I also believe it was Charlie who dealt with this issue (But like I said it was over a year ago so facts could be wrong)

Hazel, I cannot remember my exact wording when I asked for the thread to be closed, but I expressed my concern over the level of spam that was occuring in it.

What I am trying to work out now though is not really looking back at what has happened but learning from it. As I can rant for England and you would get bored of that :p

* Unless a thread/post is rule breaking or an entire account is being removed, the moderators will not remove posts upon request as all members have the ability to do this themselves.

I think for me the lack of communication was no acknowledgement of receipt of PM/s which wouldn't' take long and the fact that there was a 'secret' discussion happening in the CT.

Perhaps for members to discuss (or ask mods on their behalf if too scared) if a thread is going off course as sort of guidance? If that makes sense.

Cam- I am confused by much of what you just said but I blame the lateness of the time.

each member has the ability to do it themselves, they just often dont know how to. So no, it doesnt always need to be explained. A lot of times they are merely asking us to do something because they dunno how.

In the case of this thread in particular though, a reason was given, and a discussion was had, a long with all members being given the opportunity to pm with queries etc.

It seems that this may however have been a discussion best held in public rather than amongst the CT, but again, that issue was not raised at the time.

As far as I can tell, the thread is open, there's no spam... so, everyone can be happy...ish?

On a side note, the level of spam in these kind of threads (ie. Chat Chat Chatty Thread) really clogs up Live Forum View, and stops me seeing when people post serious stuff. Could they not use the Chat rooms for spam instead?

I've just never requested a thread to be closed before so wasn't sure how it was done/if reasons were needed. Though now thinking back on my previous comment I have realised that taking every thread closure request on a case by case basis might take up a LOT of time (dependsing on how common such requests are) so my point my be null and void now

^This is a good way of an issue being dealt with^ Also I feel that you Katy should not feel responsible for the thread which is another reason it being 'owned' by the community would be a good idea.

A few posts ago I said that I was sorry for not replying to PM's earlier but I hadn't been on my computer as was busy that week so accessed RYL on my phone (I hadn't planned for the uni student thread to happen and if I ask members to pm me I tend to ensure I'm around to reply!!). I'm sorry again for that but I am not tied to my computer or RYL and I do what I can when I can.

Re. the secret discussion it was started off by members and whilst I was creating a thread as the discussion was coming thick and fast Katy asked for it to be locked. If I had been inundated with PM's (I got 4 maybe 5?) then that may have changed things.

If the thread hadn't of been locked I think one of the points raised was for posts to be made in the thread so whilst I do agree with your later points the CT had no prior warning of it.

I had heard that it was suggested in CT that the thread be moved to public forum, but that may not be true.

A lot of people find chat scary. I do. I much prefer forums even if fast moving at times.

The only thing is, sometimes I'm watching Live Forum View because I'm talking to members who are suicidal and I'm trying to watch 2/3 different threads at once... and I miss their post Live Forum View is just spam.

I understand that people are upset; but not half as upset as some of the people who post in Serious.

It was asked this evening but i think it was felt it was a bit null and void now.

In regards to chat.. Liv is often very keen for different chat ideas. It might be worth maybe suggesting over exam times (whenever they are) or intake times (whenever that is).. if members are keen, that uni chat room be opened temporarily for members to discuss uni related things in 'real time' so to speak.

And maybe during the new intake there could be a room for the new uni students to discuss with existing uni students what to expect and that.

I find subscribing to threads if you want to watch them specifically helpful as you click 'control panel' and they are there, so maybe that will help in those situations.

Also I am not really sure that last statement is true but hey ho.
