Why has this thread then been made now, when the thread has been reopened rather than the day after it was closed or whatever if members felt so much like a discussion needed to be had outside of the one that was already happening?
Just to make it clear, that I am NOT making a dig of any kind at the OP of the thread and she knows that as we are friends and have discussed this as I communicate openly.
I think that perhaps the discussion could have taken place without/before the thread was closed- as have similar issues in the thread in the past.
But the mods didn't have any real issues with the thread till Katy asked for it to be closed so that's a bit of a moot point as Katy has said her piece
I know for example that many members of the thread felt that they were being blamed and that it was their fault- personally for me I am more annoyed on behalf of my friends, some of which do not feel safe posting elsewhere and in the thread people can be supported in a more relaxed, less intense way.
My Pm box was open for people to express their opinions. I confess I was surprised more people didn't PM me. However, the majority of posters on the thread in CT land were posters on the uni student thread so are you annoyed with them or who?
The lack of communication has been a major issue. It can't take much for a PM to be sent to regular members saying less spam, more SRS BSNS.... or maybe I am wrong....
Again that goes back to my first point
I'm not having a dig at you here but it feels like your upset with the mods and in particular me for not listening when up until a week ago the thread wasn't even on my radar?

But if its your event then its your right to cancel it.
Thats like...if you were having a birthday party and then decided you didnt want it at the last minute you wouldnt tell everyone that you want to cancel it but if everyone voices their concerns/opinions then you would consider carrying on with the party, you would just cancel it.
OK so say I was organising the RYL Picnic for example and I was like I don't like this or want this anymore.... we would cancel it.... NO, we would discuss the options.
Your birthday party example is like an individual support thread.
Charlie- One of the reasons I have waited this long is because I have been very angry about it and felt I could not rationally discuss it at that point.

If someone organised the picnic meet and then wanted it cancelled then yes it would be cancelled. Other people would be free to make another thread about the meet, but that thread could be deleted/removed at any time.
There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you.
But there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself.
I aint no abacus but you can count on me.

The ryl picnic was organised by the CT as such another member would have taken over the organising. Indeed an old CT member has recently decided to delete all of their posts and some were stickies or directly linked to CT stuff and so I reposted all those that were vital.
However, RYL meets have been cancelled by the thread starter at short notice sometimes I've seen another member repost the thread othertimes they die or get taken off ryl.

Well I sent PMs on the night that the thread was closed- one to Charlie as she closed the thread and one to you as you posted later that evening.... and didn't get a reply until a few days later which led to the feeling of not being listened to.
I think the mods in general do a really good job but I feel perhaps the rules sometimes need to be modified- less than 24hrs after Katy asked for the thread to be closed, she wished she hadn't as it upset people and that wasn't her goal. This site has a lot of people who do things impulsively and perhaps this should be considered?
The picnic would probably still happen though, the same as it was....
And the thread is back....so its the same thing really.

No, not necessarily. Maybe you personally would discuss it but not everyone works the same way. Personally I'm more of the, it's my party I'll cry if I want to, type personality.

Yus you did.. im sorry i didnt reply.. my reason was because i didnt really know what to say. As Cam said before.. the uni thread wasnt even on our radar until then and then a massive discussion flared up about it on the CT.
I'm not really sure if these comparisons really work... I do agree that it feels like there should be a difference between personal/individual support threads and general/community support threads, not sure what the difference should be though, but I am not sure the birthday/picnic/etc analogies really work as really an internet form is jsut a different place and a different situration to a real world event
I apologise for not replying earlier. I was barely on my computer and accessing ryl on my phone most of the time that week. On the Sunday I posted a concise version of the PM's I recieved to the thread and I took on board the suggestions that were given.
By the time Katy 'regretted' making the thread I had already posted saying it would be reopened in a week. As such there was a time limit to it, it was also clear that it wasn't just Katy that was struggling with the spam and so it made sense to continue the discussion.
If the thread had been deleted and she regretted it then we would have reinstated it and indeed I have reinstated similar threads in the past.

I do agree with this, but its tricky.. once a member has created a thread, theres no way to delete just their posts without deleting an entire thread, and if someone asks for their account to be deleted or their posts to be due to potential confidentiality things, we cant really say no.
This is why all members have the ability to delete any post they have made or any thread they have created.
