has anyone ever tried to get coloured glasses to help them to read? I have an overlay but I can't exactly use that for things like bus timetables, street signs, etc. I have been looking into glasses, but they are so expensive and my typing software is playing up at the moment so going to have to pay to get that fixed soon - so can't really afford to get some glasses on top of that
Ok, im not dyslexic or anything but i wanted to butt in and say i dont mind the spelling or grammar mistakes. I know i make spelling mistakes and what not but ah well.
You're all great :D
oh and did any of you see the documentary on BBC Three? With Kara Tointon (Dawn from Eastenders)? She has Dyslexia and well, it was interesting. If you missed it, look it up on iPlayer :)

I'm having a test thing to see if I need them. I probably do as I find reading black on white really hard and like the words jump around. I mean I can read black on white because I've conditioned myself too but it's not easy. I think I get the test free from student finance so yeh...
The world is just illusion always trying to change me.
You will find wonder wherever you can, and spread joy whenever you are able.
I felt emotions of gentleness and pleasure, that had long appeared dead, divide within me. - Frankenstein.
Then wear the gold hat, if that will move her;
If you can bounce high, bounce for her too,
Till she cry "Lover, gold-hatted, high-bouncing lover,
I must have you!"

When I was student they won't get me any as they are rediculasly expensive and they said that the overlay should be good enough :/ which I guess they were for books and stuff but there are some written things that you just can't use overlays for and I am so so scared of damaging my overlay and becoming incapible of reading that I can't bring myself to take it with me if I'm going out anywhere
To be honest, I believe we stereotype dyslexia, eg. a person with bad spelling/grammar is dyslexic. Numbers confuse me, in a maths lesson a substitute began telling me it was okay to have dyslexia, despite the fact I don't have it. He'd immediately assumed I had dyslexia because I get numbers confused, which was wrong of him.
I went to a school that specialized in people with dyslexia for a short while, there was two sets in each year, one of them being for those with it, one without it. It was basically singling people with dyslexia out, when they're not that different from everyone else, plenty of people without dyslexia have bad grammar/spelling.
I do think people with dyslexia recieve enough help, we don't have many sufferers in the school I'm currently in, but those who do suffer from it each have a laptop to use when writing for spelling, etc. But, we shouldn't stereotype people who suffer from dyslexia so much, or single them out, because that's what makes them want to hide.
personally I was not diagnosed until I was at college (so I was 17/18 I forget which) the idea was suggested earlier in my life by my mum but the teacher she said it to said "dyslexia does not exist" so all through school I got no help, I was considered to be "stupid" or just not to be trying. I think it's great that people now get laptops and things. Thing is though it's not just words that are an issue, it effects memory too, confusion with left/right, problems with processing the idea of and feelings caused by movement, "finding" words when having conversations, and even how people process emotions. I think people do write it off as "just a writting issue" far too easily
I have dyslexia i have problems spelling but i use a spell checker.
My writing is really bad as well , so i get my partner to write for me .
but my partner is no good at filling forms, so i get a guy at a day centre to help with them.

It can creep up inside you and consume you
A disease of the mind it can control you
It's too close for comfort
