I'm not asking for perfection in punctuating. Just some way so I know one sentence has ended and another has begun.
My example earlier was similar to this, which is what frustrates me: i was having a good day i went to the store with my mom she bought me shoes we had lunch at a chinese food place i went to the pet store after that i wanted to buy some new fish my mom didnt want new fish so i didn't get any now i'm mad at her
I do see things typed out like that. It's very hard for me to have any clue what is going on when I see something typed that way. Just a few periods to show me where sentences are supposed to have ended so I don't read through it four times to grasp the concept would be helpful.
I know what you mean... but that is how I used to write and type, and it wasn't due to laziness it was as I had no idea where to place commers full stopes, etc, and was scared to get it wrong so just left them out...
I would just like to say thank you to purple rain. You said everything that i wanted to say but didnt know how to put into words. I didn't know i was dyslexic untill after i got to university. Nobody would beleive me that i stuggled because im pretty clever, but no matter how hard i try, i cant learn proper grammar (especially when handwriting). i didnt go to a school that recognized or helped people with learning disabilities untill university. i dont tell my friends about it because its so embarrsing and they are all "grammar nazis".
People always correct my grammar and spelling, and i react the same way everytime. i get embarrased, upset, and angry.
people are like "oh you mean 'their', not 'there'." and im like, no actually i meant "shut up"
its just not nice to do. you dont know who has learning disabilites and who doesnt. for alot of people its not laziness, its that they find it hard. i mean, i try my best but a lot of the time its just not good enough. i go to the writing center for all my papers and i use spell check.
and also, WHY. like honestly.. what does it do for you? do you feel all good about yourself because you corrected a mistake in someones grammar? its pointless. they probably wont change it, and they are just going to get embarrased and upset (or at least thats how i feel)
maybe i am biased because i have had some rotton experiences with people correcting me, and because im oversensitive, but i guess i just dont see the point. it could just be me though *shrugs*
note: i do hate WhEn pEopLE TAlk liKE thIS Or Like This Because I Just Dont Get The Point. or when people use bad grammar on purpose. it makes people who ACTUALLY struggle seem lazy.

Maybe your friends would be more understanding if they knew about it? Obviously I can't judge that, but I know that if I was one of your friends, I wouldn't laugh at you for being dyslexic. I'd laugh at you if you were too lazy to bother with grammar/spelling, which obviously isn't the case.
See, I think it IS due to different experiences. I'm sure I have a difficult approach to this than native speakers - I'm unlikely to make spelling mistakes such as loose/lose because I learnt the spelling in a different context.
But really? For me, it's common courtesy to correct others' grammar in certain circumstances. Both at college and at university (all English courses) it was pretty common to proof-read others' work whether they asked for it or not - better to have it corrected and note what you did wrong immediately than to notice in an exam! Mind, I usually don't do that in every day life or on here, but I can see how it can become a habit ;)

If people correct me or not it will make little difference... Some concepts of grammar I just seem unable to learn, certain spellings too.
I have had people try to teach me, I was in special needs at school where they basically gave us word lists to learn each week, but unless I could already spell the word I was never able to learn it.
The only reason that my writing is at all readable on here is that I have a speacial program on my laptop which is programmed specially for dyslexics and so works differently from norml spell checkers which just get confsed by me.
When people correct me I just get scared of making another mistake, and then generally stop talking...
My mum used to do it alot (being an english teacher when I was younger) and I hated it... just makes you feel so stupid and small...
I agree with everything eyes.wide.open has said. i'm dyslexic as well, and i do try as hard as i can with my grammar and spelling, but i am going to make mistakes, i can proof read something a million times but if i don't know how to spell a word or use certain punctuation, how am i going to be able to correct myself.
It really irritates me when people quote something i have said, highlight bits of it, then say this is wrong it's spelt like this or the comma should have gone there. I've had this done to me on this site and it's horrible. It makes me feel bad because even though i'm trying my hardest i'm still getting it wrong and people are going out of their way to show me it's wrong.
I don't understand why grammar and spelling is that important on this site which is supposed to be used to give people support. i understand that on a CV or job application grammar and spelling should be correct but here, i'm sorry but it doesn't matter.

This.
I've always been good at English but do not feel the need to focus on how someone has spelt their post, I instead try to help them based on what's written in it. Surely that's the important part, not trying to make yourself feel big by putting someone else down?
To be perfectly honest, I'd prefer people correct me - you only learn through experience, and so people correcting me really does help me - basically what Rike and Irene mentioned.
I don't think it's got anything to do with 'putting people down', anyway.
And as mentioned before, incorrect grammar, punctuation or spelling can change the meaning of the sentence entirely, so it is fairly important.
yes, but as I said; some people are incapable to learning the spelling or the rules of grammar. So pointing out their mistakes does nothing but make the person feel inferior and even more frustrated than they do already

If I'm upset, the last thing I'm interested in is how I've laid out my paragraphs. I have been known to write a sentence that spans several lines, has no capital letters and doesn't use commas. So what? I think this is just all about elitism and people trying to make themselves feel superior, nothing else.
I understand grammar and spelling are important, and I get people weren't purposely trying to put me down, I just don't see the need to correct it on this site, because frankly I wasn't feeling to good anyway then to have someone tell me what I said was wrong, even when I had tried my hardest. Well it didn't really make me feel much better. And now reading that people just think it's just laziness. I don't know I just don't see a need for it on a suport forum
EDIT:

^ This as well, if you see a wrong spelling, or some incorrect grammar, why is there a need to correct it? it's not like the whole world is going to explode if you don't correct it.
We need never be hopeless, because we can never be irreparably broken
Does this actually happen on a regular basis? Is this really a thing that goes on? Because if so, it seems like it really needs addressing. Are there people who've made serious, support-related posts, to have recieved a reply that is only commenting on the grammar or the spelling?
And yus, you can think that if you want, Rosie. As I've said, I'd far prefer it if people would correct me when I've made a mistake (and so really, nothing to do with superiority) - and yes, there is a difference between somebody who has real reasons for not spelling or punctuating properly, and people who are simply too lazy - and as I've said, the latter annoys me, simply because there's no reason for it.
But, yus.

^ No it's not on a regular basis, well to me anyway, only one time for me near to when i first joined, but i thought given the topic of this thread i'd bring it up now.

^I asked this earlier but it got ignored. How can you tell the difference between someone who is lazy and didn't proof read to someone who may be dyslexic?

You know what, you are right. maybe i should try to talk to my friends about it, i bet they would stop picking at me. i guess i was just embarrased.
and your right about the common courtesy thing in school too. its a different circumstance than a social setting. i would rather have someone correct my grammar before handing in a paper and do well, than not.. and do pooly. i take my papers to the writing center for extra help most of the time :) they are trained there and are great.
anyway, thanks:)

Certain things bother me like putting a capital at the start Of Every Damn Word. Or no full stops and commas but apart from that, nothing really. Aslong as it more or less can be read then I'm usually alright. I try to use grammar properly but I know I probably don't and I know some of my spelling can be a bit off.
But whatever, it's just a couple of colons, really. Bigger fish to fry an' all that.
Also, I think I'd prefer to be corrected on spelling but people can do that without being patronising. If they are being patronising then I just think "****" and move on with my life.

There's no way to tell, which is why all of this pisses me off so much.

sometimes its important to have correct grammar (as i said before, school is one, cvs and jobs are another) but on a forum, or a conversation with a friend, its simply not as important as the message they are putting out there

Jo, you have to see that that's your perception of it. As someone without spelling/learning difficulties, you see peopel correcting you as helpful. Often, if you struggleing with spelling/reading, having someone correct you makes you feel embaressed becuase it feels like their drawing attention to your problem. Also this can be accociated with being 'put down' as thats how it can feel because our mistakes are often a lot more 'basic' than those of others; it makes us feel stupid. To use the running anaolgy again. If you'd been born with a brith defect which means you walk with a limp, how would you feel if someone tried to 'correct' how you walk? it would make you feel abnormal and different.
[I'm REALLY not picking on you, just trying to help people understand what it's like from our side of the fence]
I only would like/appreciate being corrected if i've asked for it. For example, if I post a story in the CC I will ask people to point out spelling mistakes to me, and suggest grammar improvemnts to make my story read better. Or an essay for school, and official document letter etc. Correcting something 'informal' like my posts on here, I dont like, becuase in my head it's just me talking and beign myself, as if I was having a conversation with someone. It makes me feel uncomfertable as it makes me think people are scrutinising and judging what I say. I know 9/10 times thats not the case, but that one time is enough.
Back to the above analogy, it's liek the difference between someone in the street critisising how you walk, and a physio trying to help you improve and encorage you. does that make sense?

This. I think I said something along these lines earlier. People saying how their feeligns towards bad spellers etc don't apply if their dyslexic: but how can you tell?
