For 4 days I stop taking my anti-depressant, I keep crying for no reason, i dont want to take them cos I dont need pills to say im happy or not. can my mood get better without them, iv been on them for 2 years.
anti-depressants are cop out drugs, most doctors palm them off to people instead of dealing with there issues,
you may look at this as stupid but there are a lot of fruits the will release the same chemicals in to the brain so if you don't want to take them try finding out about non medicated therpoy to deal with the reasons why you are depressed, and change your diet and eat more fruits and berrys
To whom I may offend,
hahahahaha
Yours faithfully the monkeys arse
as angelvsdevil says if you do take yourself off meds you need to do it slowly... as in cutting down not just stopping.
but I wouldn't recommend doing it without speaking to a doctor... the may be some truth in what ab intra is saying, but regardless meds do alter the chemical balance of your brain along with many other things and coming off them instantly can actually be dangerous...
why have you desided this now btw? I mean after being on them for 2 years... why now to come off them? what's changed?
Yeah, you really need to see a doctor about coming off them as the dose should ideally be gradually tapered down or you can develop withdrawal symptoms such as shaking, nausea, headaches... often after a couple of days without taking them. Reducing the dose will help with this.
Also, if you discuss this and the reasons behind it with a doctor you trust they can help you in the way of emotional support, advise you on supplements that may help you to feel better and see if coming off them is the best idea for you at this current time. Taking Anti-depressants is nothing to be ashamed of. Depression is a medical condition. If you hurt your knee you may take ibuprofen so taking anti-depressants for depression is no different, often it can be due to an imbalance of hormones (mainly too much Serotonin) within your brain and increasing the amount of this can make you feel happier; well get it into the range where most people's levels are. This is why anti-depressants may be needed though they don't work with all cases of depression as not all causes are medical. Taking supplements like St. John's Wort may help but you need to talk to your doctor first about this as I don't think they can be taken alongside ADs and you need to ensure it is the right thing for you and it does not inflict on any medical problems you may have/ other meds you may be taking.
In addition to what everone else has said, taking vitamins every day, specifically a vitamin B complex, is supposed to help depression.
Why don't you talk to your doctor about trying different ways of managing the depression aside from medication?
I want to stay in love with my sorrow.
Oh, but God, I want to let it go.
If you look in the mirror and don't like what you see, you can find out first-hand what it's like to be me.
You'll need a symphony to give sympathy to the girl with the worst luck in town.
When I care, it curls me up on the floor and I swear I can't do it anymore.
I cant talk to my doctor hes a jerk. cos I od in the past he dont give my any other pills and I try to talk to him, he just not going to change it. I got no money to get a new doctor
Looking into alternatives means no more prescription medication...so there are no other pills to give you that you could OD on. It would be looking into things like herbal remedies and vitamins.

St. Johns wort is hit or miss, some people says it helps them, others say it doesn't. It totally depends on your issues though. THE ONLY THING St. Johns wort has been shown to have any affect what so ever in was mild depression.
The vitamin B complex for depression idea was busted after several studies, it had no more affect than a placebo. Pretty much the same thing with fruit/foods.
However, eating a balanced diet can help, and here is why. If you don't eat healthy foods and your body is constantly starving and then getting loaded up on sugar it can really mess with your internal balance for everything, including mood. So eating a specific food may not suddenly make you feel better, but eating a healthy, balanced diet can help to a point.
Well it breaks my heart to see you this way,
The beauty in life, where's it gone?
And somebody told me you were doing okay,
Somehow I guess they were wrong.
Also, I don't know whether or not this counts but if you're a veggie taking Fatty Acid supplements (especially Omega 6 & 9) may also help with depression. As these tend to be found in fish oils and such then veggies may have a lower level of them then most people.
Can you see a different doctor at the same place? Then there may not be a difference in the cost but even within one surgery different doctors can be very different so it's worth a try.
Maybe try a few different things for a couple of days. A healthy balanced diet with exercise can do wonders. Just see what makes you feel better an dont knock psychs out the window right away.
