Dissociation question

Hey, I have a question...

I was wondering if you can dissociate for a really short time, like a couple of minutes or less?

For a while now I've found evidence of doing things I don't remember doing. But it's only ever really little random things. Conversations, a mop and bucket in my bathroom etc. I spoke to my psych about it a few months ago and she said it was probably fugue states (which is a dissociative subtype right?), but from what I've read they last a lot longer.

I think I also suffer realization and depersonalization mildly sometimes cause things go really quiet and seem slow and far away and nothing feels real. I remember when that happens and they last for an hour at the very least.

Today I started two msn conversations, the first I didn't realise until the person responded, the second time I saw the window at the bottom of the screen and saw what I wrote before they replied so I couldn't have been out of it for long.

I'm just confused and embarrassed and want to know what's going on. Oh and I definitely didn't just forget the things I do, I have absolutely no recollection.

best idea would be to speak to your psych about it.

though from experiance you can dissociate for small amounts of time. In the past I have "lost time" ranging from a few minutes to several weeks.

Dissociation

I agree with shadow-light. Normal dissociation, can last for just a few seconds. Anyone can experience this. Like being on automatic pilot.

Best to talk with therapist.

I have written a poem with artwork entitled, "Somehow, It Just" which clearly depicts a dissociative experience.

I need to warn you this is a very powerful poem and may have triggers for you. I will post the link to this poem and artwork at the bottom of this post. My artwork and poem is part of an article called Dissociation Triggered by Einstein Quote.

Summary of article below

The disconnection or lack of connection which I experienced as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse was a severance between my memories, thoughts and feelings; as well as my mind and body. The commonalities between Einstein’s optical delusion of consciousness and dissociation are that they both have the power of disconnecting one’s being from reality.

That's a really beautiful poem. Tragically beautiful no doubt, but beautiful none the less.

What I don't understand though is to why it's happening. I didn't have a traumatic childhood, at all. And it happens at really random times, not when there's anything triggering about.

Also based on the things I say/type, I know who I am and I know who the person I'm talking to is, yet say weird things (then don't remember), but I seem to remember the past while I'm in the state as I've brought up old conversations and stuff, which I thought was also affected when dissociated?... course I have no idea how much i remember, I could just have fragments and bring those up.

Back to you

Thanks so much for your comment and for taking the time to view my poem.

As far as your question regarding Dissociation. Without knowing your history
etc.etc. It would be unfair to try to answer your quetion.

Again, I would say please talk it over with your therapyist or psych professional.

Take care

Sage

I have times where I blank for a minute or even less sometimes. It's still dissociation.
