gender and class are two huge topics within sociology you will have to be abit more specific than that. what are you doing specifically?

Ok so basically we're doing Transitions in the course. From youth to Adult. The first six weeks we worked in groups to produce a digital narrative focusing on our transition from high school to university.. now we have to choose 3-5 (im only choosing 3 to make it easier lol) and using them answer a question focusing on class, gender, race etc. we choose two of them... does it make sense? so i have to make an argument using those two things (class and gender) and use those digital narratives to answer the question... get it?

It sounds like first you need to formulate a question to discuss...

Do you have a specific question to discuss? You don't want to be arguing just one side of the debate, you'll need to critique it too.

Gender and class are quite different, and as far as I know there wasn't much difference in the way they were treated in the past. Class and race would be much simpler, in my opinion.

Arguing *grins*

You could argue that the middle class is primarily composed of males as they are the highest earners and more likely to succeed in the business world even though there is supposedly equality within our society with laws supposedly enforcing that. On the opposing side it could be said that although the middle class seems to be males in the public domain this is then counter-acted by a much more stronger female presence within the upper-class such as the media attention brought about of Princess Diana and the queen (in the case of Britain anyways). This can then be brought around on how this differs with different races?

Sorry, just my random thoughts of how i'd direct the argument :-P. Isn't there anything which grabs your attention for the creations of a question or hypothesis or that you could poke around at for inspiration? (:

No, no. Must be reading reports, writing reports, writing essays, reading books, reading articles. Damn them being on the internet letting it distract me!

Katie, have you thought about doing something on health inequalities between them. Middle and upper-class people will have longer life expectancies and better access to health care than the working-class. But the gender differences between the two could be interesting. Maybe.

^ *forces self not to argue/discuss*

I think education would be a better one to tie into gender and class, because then you could discuss family roles. Maybe?

I would think that education would be harder to do than health, but you never know, it might just be my take on it. I would do chances to get into further education or apprenticeships, or jobs.

It would be slightly harder but in my opinion it would then be easier and to a more conclusive ending. At least, that's how i see it. (:

Want to write an essay on why, if the facts speak for themselves, does geography need theory? I'm really starting to dislike geographic history and thought.

If you wanted to discuss them both you could argue that the class divide affects women more than men because many of the stereotypical 'lower class' jobs are typically done by women e.g cleaning, serving.

I found Joshua's post...odd. But he's too nice to me for me to argye.

You can PM it to me, but I'm just heading to bed. Six o'clock start tomorrow *cries* I'll be able to have a look tomorrow morning though and see if I can help any. I've spent this evening helping a friend out with their essay. I'm just too nice sometimes.
