Going to lectures and not bother paying any attention?
It pisses me off when you are trying to listen to the lec, just for the people infront of you to have an hr long conversation, start listening to music, playing games, ect.
Seriously why bother turning up if you are just going to mess about.
Does that annoy anyone else?

i got really annoyed today because they didnt have a microphone so it was hard to hear them, instead i got to listen to the people infont of me talking about what they are going to do tonight.

Because it makes you feel like you're actually spending your time productively because you're going to your lecture in the first palce.
Whether you listen or not is neither here nor there.
I'm going to be a **** uni student :|
Hah.

I sit middle. Most of my lecturers are good though as soon as they hear anyone talking that person has to leave. Embarassing for them, enjoyable for people who want to learn!
I had one girl sat at the back of me a few weeks back and i could have slapped her! She kept putting her toes through the gap in my chair and everytime the lecturer said a word she knew she REPEATED it, loudly for the next ten minutes. She kept going "yes, YES" if she agreed with something. Then she was talking LOUDLY to the person next to her. My lecturer couldn't work out who it was but kept looking over and asking for quiet.
The week after she started talking again, but i'd moved over a seat and i just glared at her and she stood up and walked out! Bless her. I haven't seen her since.
But todays was a guest lecture by the bbc, so people who turned up obv wanted to be there and learn, they had a choice to go or not, i didnt see the point of turning up if they didnt listen and choose to talk.
Smaller classes no, but you cant really get away with talking in them.

i know at college people only turn up for there EMA which makes me mad becuase they mess about the whole time and get payed for it.

It really annoys me and most of our year. Because of the intensity of our course it messes a lot of things up if with miss out details from a lecture and when people talk around you it just makes it worse. Most people have been a lot quieter though since we went out to third year except for the really terrible chicken lecture but I can't remember that one for many reasons
Sounds like you have biiiiiiiiig lecture halls.
There are 60 on my course, some have dropped out, some are still in bed during the lecture (sometimes me), so your left with 20-30 at the most.
This is great, because you can ask questions alot more easily, but there are still a couple of annoying idiots.
One in particular is often walking out of the lecture hall to answer his phone...then when he comes in, he insists that he knows what he has missed.
****er!
My aunt told me about a guy in her lectures who just turned up, put his head on his desk and slept the whole way through, she always found it rather odd, but apparently he was foreign and couldn't speak a word of English so he would stay up all night studying, and just go to lectures to keep his attendance up. That's impressive, he basically learned the course by himself.
The lengths some people go to, to get a grade in a subject, moving to another country, going nocturnal, if you think about that the annoying lay abouts seem even more annoying.
Ofcourse I don't go to uni so... ha.
I used to sometimes go to lectures and play computer games the whole time. Of course I had the sound turned off and sat towards the back of the room, so I don't see anything wrong with it. The reason I did that is there were a couple classes my first year that were mostly repeating things I'd learned in high school, but I felt it was still worth going in case there was anything new, and also because I was still listening, just not as carefully as if I'd been hearing it for the first time.
But when people talk during lectures it's really annoying. It's not like anyone's going to take attendance anyway, and it's pretty much impossible to listen to a lecture while talking, so I don't see why they bother showing up. Besides being inconsiderate of their classmates who are trying to listen to the lecture (like everyone's said), it's also extremely rude to the lecturer.
But then I also get annoyed with people who sit at the back of the lecture hall and then complain that people doing things on their computers is distracting. If someone was sitting in the front row playing computer games, that would be a different matter. But seriously, if you find these things distracting, don't sit at the back of the room where you can see everyone's computer screen. It's not really fair to ask everyone else in the class to stop doing something so that one person can sit all the way at the back of the room and not see anything that bothers them.
Also, some people find it easier to concentrate on a lecture if they're doing something with their hands (like playing a game or knitting), especially some people with ADHD. So yeah, talking or listening to music during a lecture aren't cool at all, but people who are playing games might still be listening to the lecture.

Being on a games course, people like thier games, it doesnt bother me really, only when they decide to put thier sound on as well, then go to the person besides then "oh look at me playing my games"
ha ha id love to see someone knitting

Playing games with the sound on during lecture is seriously not cool. I've never seen anyone do that before. It bugs me when people play games with the sound on (without headphones) even on airplanes or whatever - I can't even imagine during a lecture...
People knit all the time during lectures at my school. Especially hum 110 lectures, cause we're not really tested on the lecture material, just the reading, so a lot of people don't go to lectures at all, and most of those that do don't bother taking notes. I even did it a few times freshman year. My mom's friend knits all the time during meetings. And my mom's a therapist, and encourages some of her clients to knit during session. It's a good way to keep your hands occupied really, and if you're not doing anything complicated, it doesn't take much focus or anything.
