Hearing Voices Network Group

I'm going to a hearing voices group through the Hearing Voices Network tomorrow. My CC is taking me as it's my first time, but I'm still so, so nervous. Has anyone been to one before? How did you find it?

I think it's a bit of a postcode lottery. I was a bit unfortunate with our local group. It was very poorly attended and one lady took a disliking to me and wouldn't let me speak so I never went back.

That being said, I know people who have had really positive experiences and have found it really useful to meet other people with similar experiences and to exchange coping mechanisms.

It's definitely worth giving a go. I really hope it goes positively for you! Let us know how you get on xxx

Thank you so much for the replies and hugs. I went this afternoon and it was really good. The other people attending the group were absolutely lovely and I found listening to the experiences of others really helpful. :)

Yes, I'm going to go back next week. Going to the group has been something I've been considering for a long time, but I've never felt ready before. I find the term "hearing voices" difficult because it sounds like what I hear is not real. I hear invisible people and just because I can't see them, it doesn't mean that they're not there. The people at the group were accepting of that though; they understood, I think. I can't believe how lovely the people attending the group are. There was quite a lot of laughter and poking fun at ourselves, so although some really serious topics came up, there was lightheartedness too. Everyone was so respectful and there was good advice exchanged. I think it could be a safe space.
