Did anyone watch this just now?

Basically about a girl being sectioned in the priory in Cheadle and her commuting suicide.

A child been over 100 miles away from family!

A suicidal teenager able to commit suicide in the hospital.

It's all just so messed up and sad :(

I seen it too and it touched me because I was in that same hospital and it should be investigated the way the patients there were treated it was cruelty they never let you outside and 99% of the patients there are institutionalised Sara's story touched me as I understand her failing within cheadle priory

I've not watched it yet because I am not in the right frame of mind to.

I suspect we both have SOME things in common about our experiences with CAMHS- thankfully I wasn't sent 100 miles away from my family ('just' 40 miles away to London though it was still isolating and scary and difficult for my family to visit). But the state of CAMH services is shocking and no child should be sent away from their home town when they are so vulnerable and in distress. They need their family and friends around them. It's a lack of money and a lack of beds and the government need pull their fingers out and sort this.

As a side issue, committing suicide in hospital is not uncommon. It's unfortunate, and in some cases it will be due to the hospital seriously failing, but as has always been communicated to me by doctors and psychiatrists- if a patient is extremely and relentlessly suicidal then being in hospital will not stop them from doing it.

Interesting Sarah with the last but I've never been sectioned or informal but a friend has and tells me about being on 1-1s where your always in arms reach of shomeone

Although I have not seen it I managed to OD once when I was IP so committing suicide is possible. Even after that they didn't put me on section or 1 to 1. My friend said that she saw it and she was in tears

I've come very close to killing myself in hospital before. They did everything they could but I still found a way and nearly died. There's only so much a group of people and a safe environment can do. If you want to end your life that badly you will find a way.

I've not watched this documentary yet. I might. But I feel for her family.

I've self harmed on 1:1, I wish more people knew that hospital isn't this amazing safe bubble. 1:1 can help lessen the risk but nothing will eliminate it entirely. Staff and patients need to work together to create trust and reduce risk.

Normally I never watch mental health documentaries but there was a link to it on a petition I signed, and as it was only half an hour and a panorama thing I did. I was very lucky that the hospital I was in was only an hour and a half away not 4 or 5 hours like her. A distance, but one my parents could thankfully afford to travel every week.

If anyone does watch it though I don't think anywhere near enough was done to find the right place for this child. Things go wrong, but for 9 months, repeatedly? Her care was inexcusable and could have contributed to her death when, had she had my care, she may have felt better. That is what I felt sad about. I really felt for her being stuck in a place where the only controls she may have felt she had were harming or not harming because she wasn't getting anywhere near home anytime soon.

It was a good documentary.

i just watched this and it was so sad. i was moved 60 miles away from home when i was 15 and it was awful only being able to see my family when they could afford to come and visit. the last thing you need when you are having psychiatric problems is to be moved miles away from your family. more money needs to be put into adolescent services to ensure that children can be treated in their home town and can continue to have the support of their family which would be so much easier if children were closer to home.
