I am currently:
broken tooth, toothache & high temperature *somewhat urgent*

I'm not even sure if this is the right place to be asking.

I've cracked another tooth, nothing has come out, I just have a really sharp piece which kept stabbing my tongue, I managed to file it down a bit (stupid I know) and its no longer as sore. I've started with really bad toothache where the tooth is and I'm running a high temperature (between 38.8-39.2), I have no swelling where it is, it just hurts.

if I've got an infection or something similar where my tooth is, would my gp be able to prescribe antibiotics, or would I have to see my dentist? I've been meaning to get ring my dentist since yesterday but have kept forgetting/been too busy & realising I've needed to ring them once they've shut, like a dick.

I'm no doctor but from experience, if it is a infection you would have to see your doctor for antibiotics first to clear up the infection then you would see your dentist so they can take care of the problem and the infection doesn't happen again. Make sure you get it checked !! It can be pretty serious sometimes. Dental hygiene is super important. :)

I brush my teeth too often, probably use mouthwash too often too :P my dentist has said to reduce the amount I'm brushing my teeth cause I have fairly bad gum recession *cringe* from it. I brush my teeth every time I eat, which can be up to 8 times a day cause I can't stand my mouth feeling dirty.

my dads had antibiotics from his dentist (we go to the same one) before she'd do any treatment for him, but he already had an appointment booked to see her. hmm, will try see my gp to see if they can help of if they'd say I need to see my dentist.

For teeth things it's always better to go to the dentist, I get infections in my wisdom teeth and always get the antibiotics from the dentist. But I guess the gp might be able to give you them too? Try it.

thanks, dentist had a cancellation this morning & she said she'd have a look then have me come back in at another point to get sorted, turns out she couldnt do anything even if she hadn't slotted me in between people cause I have a slight infection.

An infected tooth can be dangerous. The infection can spread to heart, brain etc. It can go up into the bones in your face and eat bone away. I would deffo go to a doctor or dentist while issue is small. As a temporary measure people have eaten raw garlic to lessen infection causing tooth pain. It has antibacterial properties eaten raw (cooked is no good) You still want to see a professional though.

Jill you aren't supposed to brush right after eaten as you will damage the enamel on your teeth.
