I was just wondering if anyone has any pets that are good at tricks or maybe can do an unusual trick?
We're in the process of adopting a rescue dog and when we got her, she knew sit and paw, which she does quite enthusiastically. Since then she's learnt lay down, high five, to wait for her food and on the pavement if we're crossing the road. We're also in the process of teaching her play dead and to bring toys back.
So does anyone have any skillful pets? :)

I had to look it up :p but basically you throw the toy not too far away from you and when they get it, you take it off them gently and praise them/give them a treat/both. Then you progress to throwing it further and when they get it, encourage them to come back to you. Apparently the trick is to just call them a few times and ignore them until they bring it back, but I don't think it would work :p I think some dogs are better at bringing toys back than others. The other puppy we have will just not bring anything back, no matter what you do with her!

Poppy knows: sit, down, stay, leave it, on (jump onto a box, low wall, tree stump), high five (either paw), high ten, touch (nose to hand), target (paws to object), spin, twirl (spin other way), up (stand on hind legs), leg weave, wave, jump through a hoop I make with my arms or legs, piggy back, over (jump over something), bow and leap frog (over one of my other dogs) and shuts cupboard doors and drawers, take it (take object from my hands)
We also do a lot of clicker free shaping where the dog has to think up things to do themselves without you telling them. Eg place a box in front of them and they get rewarded for touching it, pawing it, jumping on/in it, jumping on it and spinning round etc just for fun. And she's learning to skateboard.
Ben only does sit, stay, high five down, leave it, touch, roll over, play dead and catch a frisbee, find your toy (and he can differentiate between toys if I tell him which to get) and heel.
Charlie we have only had 3 months but he does high 5, sit, down, touch and jump. And fetches.
Sash is a law unto herself but does sit, down, high 5, climb on a box, up, shuts cupboard doors, touch, and we are doing some free shaping rear end awareness (pivot) as well. It would be quicker to just lure her to pivot but I like to get her thinking a bit more so even if it takes longer I prefer to free shape where possible.
My dog knows, sit, paw, lie down, twirl, wait for food, leave food, wait on pavement to cross the road, heal and fetch. But like Katy (buttons) he also does numerous spontaneously to get food lol

My guinea pig will sit on my lap & when I tell her 'kisses', she'll climb up my front and kiss my face. She'll also climb up onto my shoulder when I tell her too.
My girlfriend's dog is ten and I taught her to 'turn' the other day - I'm highly allergic to dog saliva, so she'll come up to me, I'll tell her to turn around and she'll turn to sit with her back to me so I can pet her :] She'll also do it the other way and will turn back round to look at me if I need her full attention :)

My cat knows how to attack me and if he sits on the table and I tell him to remove himself, he will swipe me. I don't think my cats are very disciplined. I think his trick is probably getting milk from me with his imploring eyes and persistance. He also slides across the car when you've parked up and pretends to be super nice to anyone that isn't family! The other two cats are slightly more obedient and will come if you call them and will sit on command but those aren't really tricks.
My post has not been helpful but I love my cats so an excuse to talk to them is just perfect, obviously!
The dog I have at the moment is a bit of a handful (she's a rescue dog and was completely untrained when we got her) but she can do all the basics now -sit, paw, lie down etc. I used to have a cat who would sit and give his paw for a treat and he could give a high 5. We also trained him to use our slide in the garden - he would climb up the ladder and then run down the slide.

Sasha was my boyfriends mums dog and had no training at all before we took her on last year. She's 8 and a half and has horrible skin problems so she can't walk as far as the others so needs things to keep her brain active instead

And last but not least - Charlie - he is about 18 months old and this is him learning to walk nicely on a lead the first week or so we got him because he pulled like a train!

Amy, you are so wonderful with your dogs! They clearly love you to pieces and they're very clever :]
My girlfriend's dog is well trained to the point where she won't wee, even in her own garden, unless you tell her she can. She was rescued from an abusive first owner, so once the trust was built back up, she is very very receptive to love and positive attention that she's still really easy to train even though she's getting old.

So, I'm sorry to lower the tone completely, when everyone else's pets are really smart, but my dog does this thing where she'll trump, turn her head around, sniff it and then walk off and give evils to the person she's sat next to. It's really funny.
More smartly, if she's in the garden and wants to get in, she'll bark just once and wait, if you don't get her in 2 minutes, she'll do a single bark again!

Our pups sit, fetch, know to sit when it's time to have their lead on, know they need to come back to "lead on" when they're off the lead, if you say "noms" they know it's feeding time and they sit for their food. One of them also barks on command, usually to ask for something. Unfortunately he now thinks he can get away with barking EVERY time he wants something xD
They also know "up" which means they can jump up, "Down" to get down off furniture or to stop jumping up and "leave" which means to leave something or drop whatever they have in their mouth.
My old cat Bex would lick my nose if I asked for a kiss.
And (not really a trick but anyway) if I put my hand in my mouse cage and it's in at the wrong angle for them to climb on, Min tugs on my sleeves with her paws to get me to move my hand.
My hamster also does the same thing xD
