Tramadol withdrawals
Ok I've been on a pretty high dose of tramadol for about 3/4 years and now it's starting to affect other systems, eg my digestive tract... Has anyone come off tramadol having been on it for ages and what's the best way you recommend? So far I'm getting completely conflicting advice and it's muddling me. I just want off the damn stuff so going cold turkey is appealing!
Ta!

Hate to state the obvious but have you been to your doctor about coming off it and how to do it. I would not suggest cold turkey though as that can just make you extremely ill.

Yea my GP knows about it and he wants to wean the dose, but I just want off the sodding med. it's messing with too much other stuff. Having experienced some of the w/d's of it today I'm terrified as to what it's gonna be like when I do come off it.

If your doctor has advised you then we cant give you any information to go against this as its against ryl rules when you have been given medical advice. Really you have to follow their advice and report back to them if its not going well.

As above, because your GP has advised you to be weaned off it we can't give much more advice other then I highly recommend following the GP's directions as generally complete withdrawal will be much worse then being weaned properly.
Good luck! =)

Yea I spoke to him yesterday and he said that given the state I was in due to the the tramadol he could see why I wanted to go cold turkey but attempting to even think about it while I'm unwell is just idiotic, which it probably is, but I just want off the bloomin stuff. From what I've gathered off google the withdrawals are something shocking and it's scaring the complete crap out of me :/ here's hoping it doesn't take too long, I'm not sure I could handle a week of cold sweats, panic attacks and feeling like I want to jump out of my skin. Urgh.

Please dont go cold turky. I tried it on Oxy and morphine and it is hell. If possible try and stick to a plan from your dr. They will know what else if going on with your body and will know if it can take a few more weeks of tramadol. If you decide to do it alone be careful and dont decrease the doses to dramatically. Take care

Coming off Tramadol cold turkey is horrible, seriously don't do it. The withdrawal effects made me feel so ill, it's not worth it! Do it gradually.

Really as you've spoken to a doctor regarding this you need to come off it as advised; being weaned off it. I can understand that it may not be what you want but at the end of the day you'd be glad of it.
As you've already been advised this by your doctor and we can't given any advice on this to the contrary (as stated in the FAF rules) and therefore I'm now going to close this thread.
If you want to discuss my reasons for this then feel free to PM me,
