SI Question - Damaged nerve maybe?

Right so the other night I cut.
I'm not sure what happened but suddenly I had a horrible pain all the way down my arm, from my elbow to my thumb. The cuts fairly close to my wrist about an inch away. I'm telling you, I would have been screaming in pain if I was alone in the house it hurt that much. It felt different from the usual cutting pain.
Afterwards it bled a lot, but eventually slowed down.
Since then my arm has been extremely sensative. I only have to bend my wrist a certain way and my whole arm hurts. Its different than when I just knock a cut, cause this is an ache all the way up my arm to my thumb yet again.
I wonder if I damaged/cut a nerve.. is this possible or could it be something else?
I really don't want to get it checked by a doctor, but it does hurt quite a bit.

It sounds to me like nerve pain. It may be that you have cut into a nerve or that the wound has caused swelling which has put pressure on a nerve.

If it is a nerve problem there isn't much anyone can do. Do you have full range of movement and the ability to grip as you normally would? If your movement and grip is effected I would go see your GP.

I assume the wound is closed or at least covered?

You really need to see a doctor if you think you may have damaged a nerve, as it's also possible you may have damaged underlying structures such as a tendon, and without treatment relatively soon, that damage can become unfixable and you could be left with pain/loss of movement forever. Sorry if that came out as really scary, I'm just trying to offer the worst case scenario just so you're informed to make a decision.

I can still use my hand as normal. Its just sometimes when I bend it, or put weight on my hand that it hurts. Not all the time though.
And yeah its scabbed over now.
I really cant go to the doctors.

From what it sounds like a very similar thing happened to me a few years ago, I also didn't want to go to the doctors and after a while it just stopped. Although that doesn't mean that it is the same thing and you shouldn't go the doctors, because I probably should've gone to the doctors.

why cant you go? You need to be responsible for your actions and seek medical help, otherwise you could cause damage that could have been avoided.

What exactly were you hoping people would respond with? Nobody can be sure if it is nerve damage or not, it could be or it could be something else. I have had injuries that have been so painful I could not move the affected body part at all for close to a week and then very restricted movement after that but they eventually healed up ok and others where I have damaged more important structures and had actually less pain. You need to go to the doctors/minor injuries/a+e or be prepared for the possibility it will continue like that for an indeterminant amount of time. It is your choice at the end of the day.

My only advice is to see your GP asap and he will send you to A&E if s/he deems it necessary to do so. Or you could go to a walk in clinic.

We can't see your arm and examine it, therefore making any sort of diagnosis is futile. If it is that bad then it needs to be seen to.

It sounds like nerve damage. I've cut through nerves/veins/tendons/ligaments and from what you're describing it does sound like nerves.

Most of the time they'll heal on their own, but sometimes they won't heal properly, on my right wrist it didn't heal properly and now if I catch my wrist I get a throbbing pain going up my hand.

You may also have hit a vein, if it bled a hell of a lot and then slowed down, these can also be really painful for a few days afterwards and give you pains up your arms..

PM me if you need hun, but if it's causing you a lot of discomfort i'd go to the doctor just to be on the safe side..like I said, sometimes they heal OK and sometimes they odn't.

sounds like you need to see your doctor, i understand you don't want to but there really isnt anything we can do for you to help. your doctor can help, if you dont want to go then no one can force you, but know that is the best option unless you are fine with doing more damage to the nerve.

If you can't see a doc, is there a walk in clinic nearby? This does sound like it needs looking at.

How is it now? Did you get it seen by a doctor?

I still get pain shooting through my arm at times and now wish I had. Hope things are well
