Flooding in Queensland, Australia

I don't know if it's been mentioned on RYL yet but in Queensland in Australia that has been severe, flooding and inland Tsunami, 8 people are confirmed dead and 72 are missing and the death toll has been warned to rise and conditions worsening and spreading to other area's.. totally devastating.

I was JUST about to post about this! It's devastating.

This website is giving regular updates: http://www.crikey.com.au/2011/01/11/...-southern-qld/

ANY donations to the QLD flood appeal would be greatly appreciated. Visit this site for details.

The "inland tsunami" just shows how dangerous flash floods can be. Pretty scary. And this is so sad, not only for people who have lost lives, but for farmers who have lost their crops, people whose homes are ruined...can't believe there is still more to come.

Horrible isn't it, Brisbane has been told to brace themselves for the worst as Brisbane River is due to break its banks within the next 2 days!

:(

I cannot believe the images I am seeing - the video footage of Toowoomba's inland tsunami was shocking - if you look it up on youtube it's unbelievable. I just, words don't even describe it, and I can't imagine how horrifying it must be to be there :(

Death toll has risen to ten now.

I can't believe how bad it's gotten! I've never seen anything like it, I hope that it subsides soon.

God, it's just awful. I've been following it a little and it just seems devastating, and totally unbelievable - especially in Australia.

^ Yeah the word 'unbelievable' kind of sums it up. Seems like just yesterday we were under water restrictions - timing showers, watering our lawns only on particular days, hearing reports about drought with regular updates on severely low dam levels...now we have so much water it's devastating :|

Yes!! we have gone from one extreme to the other...either way its bad...would be good to have it in the middle! Pity we cant store the excess water somewhere for future. Apparantley the brisbane river has now been contaiminated with sewage though :(

Clear skies - are you in a safe place? much flooding where you are?

Oh yeah, I'm fine - I live in Townsville. We're lucky actually. Far north QLD got a category 1 cyclone over Christmas, Central QLD got severe flooding over the new year...and now you guys have been hit hard. North QLD seems to have come away relatively unscathed.

How are you going, though? Where abouts in Brisbane are you?

It's now been reported that the flood is expected to reach a peak of 5.2m...that's better than the original 5.5m prediction - but still very terrible. Stay safe xx

Its just devastating to see it first hand and not just on the tv. It just doesnt seem real - there is a silence in the city that ive never seen before. Nothing much is left in the shops. There were no fruit/vegies in the shelves. And now its heading further south to NSW and VIC. People seem in shell shock which it totallly understandable. We are going to help in the cleanup in whatever way we can. Qld needs a break and i hope it come soon xxx

Those who are further south - listen to the reports and get out while its stilll possible. The water arrives within a very short period of time and can take you by surprise. Better to be safe xxx

I saw the floods on TV and was reminded that from being on the web in a place like this not much can happen in the world where I won't know someone living there.
