Beware anything that starts at 1p
and always check the sellers reputation.
Anything with Import from Hong Kong should be treated cautiously, I've been fooled by that myself. Looks ok and might work ok for a while but will always break fairly quickly.
Make sure to double check the P&P charges, they can really get you there.

You can't really lose any money on eBay anymore. If the item doesn't get to you and you pay through Paypal, then it's more than likely you'll get your money back. I'd choose only to view items from the UK, I don't see anything wrong with bids that start at 1p though?
Always use Paypal and never pay by check or postal order or cash. If you are forced to pay by check then either don't buy or ensure that you have received your goods before sending the money.
Check the person's feedback. I never buy from anybody with less that 95% feedback. If they do have feedback less than 95% then check why somebody left negative feedback. If they seem to be the same reason don't buy.
Don't buy designer things from ebay because many, many of them are fake, unless you don't mind fake labels.
Contact the Ebay staff if you haven't received your item in two weeks. They will open up a 'case' that can only be settled by the item turning up or a refund being made, else they will take action.
Always read the item description as carefully as possible. It sucks to have an item turn up that's not what you thought, and if it has been decribed in the description and you haven't read it properly, you more likely than not will not get your money back.
When making an account, don't use your real name in the account name and use a weird password so no one can hack. This happened to my mom and it's devastating when you are hacked. It's also very scary when dealing with your credit cards and bank account details.
I'm only 13 but I know that all these things can happen and most have happened to me (my mom lets me use her eBay account).
I hope this has helped.
Take care. <3

You have 45 from paypal to make a claim if anything goes wrong, if someone says "we are not responsible if it gets lost in the post" - they are. If it seems too good to be true, it is.
If there is a problem talk to the seller first, being a seller, alot of new people dont understand how negs and DSR can affect a sellers acount so talk to them and if they dont help, open a case.
But to be fair, ive been using for years and only ever opened two claimes, its not as horrific and widespread as it seems.

I've used ebay a lot both selling & buying and have only had a very small number of minor problems. My experience for the most part is very good indeed.
My biggest piece of advise when buying something would be to carefully read the whole description; doing that can potentially prevent a lot of problems happening :)
I don't use eBay anymore, I had a bad experience a few years ago. I use Amazon Marketplace, I think it is safer! But good luck anyway! What did you buy? xx

Dear god do you know how many people read a title and think they are getting a wii/xbox/42inchtv ect for £19.99, they complain how they have been scammed (well it is) but tells you in the description it is just a link you are getting. The new one at the moment is iphone 4 boxes, some people fail to see the BOX ONLY!!! NO PHONE. (even in the title), so some people are bidding £400 odd on a box cause they couldnt be bothred to read properly.

lol for the sellers it would be, but unforantly ebay only cares about the buyers, so even if you havent been scammed or changed your mind, you almost always get a refund. I remember one on the ebay forums that this person sold a car, buyer drove off and crashed the car at the end of the road and wanted a refund - he didnt win, but it was funny.
But people do seem to think they can rip things, break them, or claim non recipet to ge things for free.
