Can you suddenly develop an allergic reaction?

I have been using veet in shower hair removal cream for about 5 months with no problems, but the other day as i put it on, i felt a tingling sensation, but thought nothing of it, but when i washed it off my legs were red and very itchy.

My mum said to use some moisturising lotion to try and sooth the itching but it stung when i put it on. My legs looks horrible now, the redness isn't as bad, but where its so itchy i think i have taken some skin off and it's started scabbing.

Are there any products i could use to help with the irritation? or does it need any sort of medical attention?

thanks in advance :)

that happened to me too.. I put on cortisone cream and not only did it stop the itching but it helped heal the wounds. Just go to the pharmacy and look under the anti itching cremes and you should find a medicated one with cortisone in it.

it should clear up soon

Yes, you can suddenly develop an allergy and that sounds what this is so stop using Veet from now on and it may be that all hair removal creams you are sensitive to. Allergies develop once you have seen a protein in something, never the first time, and your body starts to react to that. The more you see it the more likely your body is to react and so given time this can be seen to develop an allergy. If you have any at home then taking anti-histamines (as said on the packaging provided you have no reasons why not to take them (read the leaflet)) then they may help. Also running cold water over your legs may help just to reduce the inflammation and also increase the chance that all of it comes off. As said above, Hydrocortisone may help however, I would only se that if it is still bad tomorrow and after the advice of a pharmacist as on such a large area such as your legs it could cause big problems so I'm not sure I'd want that. If it doesn't start to clear then speak to a doctor. Also speak to a doctor if the skin becomes more inflamed/ bumpy/ painful as there is a chance this could become infected as any irritation to the skin can lead to bacteria entering and an infection setting up.

Yeah this happened to me too with Veet - although not as severly. Take anti-histamines, definately. If your leg doesn't get any better, even if it doesn't get worse, I would go to the doctors just as a precaution. They might be able to prescribe you something better than your bog standard anti-histamines.

Yeh it happend to me. I used to die my hair alot. Then I died it and I had a terrible reaction. I thought it was just that one Hair die so the next time I used a different one. I had a reaction to that one too, since then I have been prone to alergies (not just hair dies).

Go to doctors they will be able to give you something to fight it.
