She doesn't seem to be that well known as a singer, but she should be.
Imogen Heap has an original yet familiar style of singing, with lyrics that most people could relate to. It's a combination of minimalistic, ambient, electronic, acoustic, piano, pop, with a little rock thrown in too.
It's hard to identify a specific sound for Imogen Heap as her sound varies from song to song, from album to album. But I think that it's a good thing - her album isn't all the same. All the songs are clearly different.
She has a distinctive voice which is refreshing to hear.
Also, she helps to write a lot of the songs, and plays several instruments including piano, so she's not just a pretty face and voice.
She's really worth listening to if you feel down. Her music isn't 'emo' music, so it doesn't make you feel more depressed. But it's also not happy clappy music - which just makes you feel worse if you feel down. There's just something about it that makes me feel at least a little bit better.
She has had three albums released (one recently). I recommend her second album more than any other, which includes songs such as 'Headlock', 'Hide and Seek', 'The Moment I Said It', 'The Walk', and 'Just For Now'.
The album is really listenable, and there's not one bad track on the album, which is nice. Unlike a lot of albums, there's not one good hit and the rest not so good. It feels like she's really put a lot of effort into the album,.
I highly recommend it to anyone who might be into that sort of music - which will be a lot of people as it stretches over so many different music genres. Also, if you're not sure about her the first time, keep listening. I wasn't sure about her at first, but now I love her music. :)
Conceal me what I am, and be my aid for such disguise as happilly shall become the form of my intent..
...Everybody is somebody else's weirdo.
"we could mix all three, the two gendered and the one non-gendered, "she", "he", and "it", to make "shi...". No, nevermind, that won't work either..."
I had a song or two by her. I think I had "the walk" and "hide and seek"
Wether I still do or not I don't know.. Might download her album cause I'm sure I heard a song which contained Imogen heap the other day on the radio and I really liked it, think it was a remix or something though.
Life can be beautiful if you let it.
Step back, breathe and take it in
I love her, seen her live twice. Sorry, just had to resurrect this to say that. The second time her "parrot" died, so she got the whole audience singing "Just For Now" with her, it was absolutely immense. And yes, she does do all the weird & wonderful electronic-y harmony echo type things in her live shows :) she's brilliant. And completely eccentric :)
Wake me up before I change again
Remind me the story that I won't get insane
Tell me why it's always the same
Explain me the reason why I'm so much in pain.
