Olanzapine or Quetiapine

Saw psych today and he suggested either going on Quetiapine again at 50mg or olanzapine 2.5mg. This would be for mood wise. I have had a Google and still unsure. I have been on quetiapine before but it was causing issues with work ( getting up very late) never been on the other one. Not too sure any advice?

Could you ask about modified release Quitiepine? It’s generally less sedating than ‘traditional’ quitiepine, at least after the initial part. How long were you on it for before?

Which are you leaning towards? Did he suggest which one he thought may be better?

Just from personal experience I found quetiapine I stand release more sedating and hard hitting and calming whereas the lower the quetiapine mr helps with sleep and mood. But the sedating effect your body gets used to above 100mg as it looses its quick sleep properties if you get me. But it’s really good.

Whereas with olanzapine there is there is a similar thing where is it acts in the same way and can create the groggy and sedating feeing as well. However it also helps with sleep. People find that the side effect is a lot more hunger than on quetiapine so be aware that if you will need to consider that when choosing so you can stick to the medication.

Have you tried Clopixol? Tablet? I found that really helpful for sleep mood and impulses when I was struggling a lot with self harm when I was younger and got a lot of flashbacks.

Hope that helps. Message me if you need help. I can send you the meds leaflet the dr in our trust see out x

Hey Lauren, ask your psych which med may be most beneficial for you or perhaps you can try quetiapine again and see how you go on it and if you are finding it still quite sedating in the morning then try the other one and out of the two see which one is most helpful for you. Just an idea! Thinking of you lovely xx
