Present buying help

I agreed with my friend to buy a present buying no more than a fiver. I bought her present ages ago. Today she sent me a text saying that she had spent £8. Now my present cost £5 so I feel that I have to get her something costing £3.

Now this is where I am stuck. She requested that she doesn't have anything edible though. So any suggestions are welcome.

Tricky I would stick with the fiver or go to poundland and buy 3 things like a mug etc!

Do you have to really buy more? Could you not just stick with what you have?

It is possible that she has spent more because she thought you would really like what she bought even though it was out of the price range, also she was possibly just telling you to inform you that you could increase your budget if you hadn't already bought her something.

I would just stick with what you have already got. You made an agreement on price. She has chosen to go over that. And she should be grateful that you have got her a gift not the expense of it. Please try not to feel guilty or anything. It is the thought that counts.

Thanks everyone.

After much thought I think that I will stick to what I have got.

I'm so confused by the edible bit, but otherwise, I would say there is nothing wrong with you sticking by the actual agreement.

I'm doing a gift exchange with a woman who lives miles away, and we also settled on a price, but just because she went over slightly, doesn't mean I need to, and she knows that. Try not to get roped into that sense of obligation, would be my suggestion.

That said, I'm getting more stuff today, because the box I got was too big and I'm paranoid I didn't get enough bits and bobs; she's picky, though. I'm a hiprocrite, I know.

This is where the deep, meaningful signature goes.

The reason why I said that is because last year I gave her some biccies and she said that she's watching her weight so she doesn't want food. So I couldn't get her some chocolate or something like that.

Anyway I gave her the present last week. It was a plaque saying "a house is not a home without a cat". She has cats. I also bought the same plaque for my other cat owning friend. I got free postage so I guess that if I had paid postage it would have cost me the extra £3.

^^ I don't see it as rude to tell someone that you didn't like a present/would prefer not to recieve something. Yes it can be awkward, but it helps you learn to buy things they really appreciate. For example one year I got nothing but sponge bob stuff from EVERYONE, so I just politely asked people to not buy me it again.

Hope your friend enjoys this years gift.

I don't think it's rude either especially if someone is either watching their weight or have an eating disorder.
My brothers ex gf had an eating disorder and said nothing edible which to be fair I wouldn't want anyone to be given a present that might make someone worst :)

My friend was happy with the plaque as she texted me to say so yesterday.
