So, this game is pretty spiffy. You learn additional vocabulary (totally not scary), and for every word correctly defined, this site donates 20 grains of rice toward ending world hunger. Everybody wins :)

also, if they're going to donate all this rice...surely they must already have the rice in bags & like...take little scoops out...therefore...why not just give it all in the first place?

I think so many people play it that they must just wait til a number of people combined get a whole bag and then donate that. Don't think they'd be like 'well, Emily only won you 2 grains so that's your lot'!

If FreeRice has the rice to give, why not give it all away right now?
