Hey guys :)
I hope it's okay if I post here but I just read through the whole thread and had to say something :) I personally don't have autism but I work with teenagers with severe autism and challenging behaviours so I understand where all of you are coming from. Most of the teenagers I work with are non-verbal so it is tricky at first to understand why they behave the way they do but after working with them for as long as I have it becomes easier. The teenagers are mainly all on the severe end of the spectrum but there are some with PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance), aspergers and SMD (sensory modulation disorder) as well as autism.
I absolutely adore working with these teenagers, they can be very challenging at times (I've been hit, slapped, bit and had my hair pulled) but I know that it isn't their fault.
So yeah, hope everyone is good!
