Mental Health Act Assessment

They are coming to do a Mental Health Act Assessment today. I've been sectioned before but I'm still very scared. My psychiatrist wants me on a S3 with the view of going to another specialist IP place. I can't believe this is happening again.

It sounds like you are going through a very scary time right now. How do you feel about the possibility of going IP?

Do you want to talk a little more about what is going on for you here?

Do let us know how it goes as soon as you are able to.

Good luck. Can you manage to pack a bag, in case you do have to go in?

Hi Sweetie,

I'm sorry to hear that things have got so bad for you that this is what they have had to consider.

I know from experience that when you are put on a section. It is a horrific feeling and you probably feel quite angry with them/that they don't understand. Deep down though, I hope you will be able to recognise that they are trying to help you, however much it doesn't feel like it is now.

Thinking of you and I hope that if you did get sectioned, you will be in a hospital/unit that has good and sensitive staff and facilities.

Much love x

I was already a voluntary patient but they said they couldn't maintain my safety as a voluntary patient. I did end up getting sectioned. I believe the panel had already made up their mind about sectioning me before I was asked to speak to them.

Thanks for all the support.

I'm sorry you were sectioned but I'm sure they have done it with the best of intentions and hopefully in time they will feel you can be managed as a voluntary patient. Is the section to send you to a specialist unit? I was sectioned to go to a specialist unit as well. Like you, I have walked in the room and known that they have already made their decision and my appearance be futile!

xx

Hi, yes they want to send me to a specialist unit but this could be The Dene where I have just come from. The Dene did nothing for me except hand out medication and kept me somewhat safe (I still OD'd and self-harmed)

I hope they don't just send you back there. Fingers crossed they'll actually spend sometime looking for a unit that will help.

I understand how unreal it can be. I was recently made to go inpatient again and it was just so unbelievable that it was happening to me all over again.

But anyway, in the end I did get some extra help and my meds were changed around a bit and it was helpful. So hopefully this is something you can look back on and say you're glad it happened because of the help you received from it.
