Looking for some good books

I'm going on a trip at the end of the month and will be on a bus for a total of over twelve hours. I'm looking for a few good books to read on the way. I like the classics as well as books with twisted plots. I despise sappy romance novels. Any suggestions?

If you haven't read 'Catcher in the Rye' yet, you haven't lived! 'The Hunger Games' is also a good book if that's the type of thing you like. The Alex Rider series, although a tad childish, are absolutely amazing and Anthony Horowitz will never fail to throw in a good plot twist!

Misery - Stephen King i've always found to be a great travelling companion, it's so easy to get into and the claustrophobia of it really compliments that sense of travelling and being stuck in a compartment or a seat somehow.

Ohhh I love the Redwall series! I used to collect the books in hardback. They're really fun, and easy to read as they're written for young teens. As Poet_In_War suggested, Redwall is a good one to start with.

I've also fallen in love with Terry Pratchett novels. Pratchett's sense of humour is so amazingly witty and well crafted. "Hogfather" in particular is one that I would recommend.

I recommend Jodi Picoult to anybody.
Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
That Devil Called Love by Lynda Carter
The Kite Runner by Hosseini Khaled

I echo the above recommendation on "His Dark Materials"!

I think that it is well deserving of the praise it gets.

Fantastic series, hard to get into admittedly but towards the end of the first novel it gets itself moving in a phenomenal way.
