Self harm support groups

I found out that there is a SH support group that meets once a month about an hour away from me. I feel like it would be helpful and I'd like to go, but I'm pretty apprehensive about it. I've never been a group of any type before, and I really don't know what to expect. I might try to get a friend of mine to go with me since I really know I can't do it alone.

If any of you have ever been to one, what should I expect?

I've never been to a group solely for self harm, so I cannot help you much there.

I think you should try the group, it would be a very positive step to make. If going with a friend makes it doable then do it that way.
