rules regardening photos

I was wondering why the rules for photos are so strict.
I had a photo on my sig of a girls legs and i was told that they were triggering because the legs were too thin.
but i have seen other people with photos of legs and there just as thin as the ones that i had on my sig.
i think the rules are too strict when it comes to things like this.
it not like there was blood on the legs or anything like that.

thin legs? maybe the mod was new and being over zealous. you cant get in trouble for thin legs, surely? i mean, i think thin legs are gorgeous =] my friend is the same size as me, but her legs are so thin... i think it must be dance, i built up muscle, lol.

but yeah, it couldnt be that you cant have thin legs in your sig... i suppose if you always post in the ED forums, you might be advised against it. they wouldnt just take it away, though, surely?

I know how you mean. I had my own avatar for over a year before I got told it was triggering. I mean pfft its a little cartoon blue girl! I never ever considered it triggering - I thought it was adorable! But I can understand having to change it if it triggers people. I dont want people to feel unsafe because of my avatar lol..

Apparently she was too skinny. What about the stickman avatars? I didnt argue. I wouldnt want to be triggered by anyones avatar.

that sucks. seems a bit over zealous, being as she was a cartoon, and blue.

i mean, cartoons are always exaggerated (sp?) like that um... dexters laboratory! his sister had the longest skinniest legs ever. thats on the tv. if youre being triggered by cartoon characters, theres no way youre gonna get away from that.

A photo of me was removed because it was too triggering, my girlfriends photo was removed because it was too triggering, imho, this place is too bubble wrapped & you see thin people everywhere, you can't protect people from that, I also see a lot of people's avatars & sig pics & pics of themselves that could be considered triggering, much more so than the ones that have been removed of myself & my girlfriend, but it's their photos & they have a right to express themselves as they wish, imo anyway.

In a world where you can be anything, be yourself.

An image is a powerful thing, and considering so many people use photos as 'inspiration' or a trigger I totally understand why the rules are strict. I think the context of a photo matters, and not all thin people can be seen as triggering. It just depends on the viewer. RYL is trying to promote a positive atmosphere.

It's all positive until pictures get removed or whatever. That's not going to make someone feel great about themselves.

Sometimes this does get a bit much. I still see people around with names which include things that could be 'triggering' to some. I don't really get bothered by anything on here though, so I don't know if the word 'razor' in a name is that bad.

Different things trigger different people, and instead of removing everything I think it's healthier that people learn to deal with it.

Modding on RYL dosen't work like that. Ever decision is made by the whole team.

If you have a problem with anything the forums mods do try PMing Aimee In Wonderland the acting head of forums.

Then wear the gold hat, if that will move her;
If you can bounce high, bounce for her too,
Till she cry "Lover, gold-hatted, high-bouncing lover,
I must have you!"

The mods on this site are there to look out for the members. Stuff like this shouldn't really be posted. If you have a problem with something that has been changed/decided then PM the mod, or admin and discuss it that way.

Posting complaining comments isn't exactly promoting a strong supportive board.

EDIT: What FF said. :P

Imperfection is underrated.

Yeah, I understand what you mean. I've had stuff changed because it was triggering. I felt guilty and a bit embarrassed. But then I realised everyone considers different things triggering and the mods are considering the health of the whole community. I dont think stuff being removed should be seen as a punishment, its just to try and help keep everyone safe.

sorry, i didnt know how mod things work. i agree with the fact anything can trigger you and if we take away everything that *might* trigger someone, we'll have nothing left.

also, this isnt a complaint thread. we're discussing the photo rules. more "why?" than "grrr"

I hope i don't come across complaining.
It was not what i meant to come across as
i just think there should be a review of the rules regarding photos

Well...to clear up a few things here:

1.We dont act alone when removing a picture,we ask opinions of other mods too.

2.Its mostly members that report these pictures because theyre triggering.

3.We are (though you may not believe it) pretty lienient....so if 1 person reports a pic and its borderline a lot of the time we wont remove it unless it gets reported again and again.

The thing is that different things trigger different people and so we try and cater for everyone. No ryl isnt the real world, but thats not what were aiming for really, this is supposed to be a safe environment without triggering material....I dont think its really our aim to force people to confront what they think is triggering.

I do think you shouldve PMd us....as youre actually discussing mod action which is against the rules and its probably something we couldve talked to you about in private.

I feel like I say this again and again to people....if you see an avatar etc that you think has thinner legs, or bones showing or whatever it is....report it.If you dont then you have no ground to say its unfair that yours was removed and theirs wasnt....because I know I personally dont pay that much attention to sigs.

No there wasnt blood on your pics legs, but obviously thats not the only triggering image on here....were just trying to help people feel safe,in a non triggering environment....

What do you think the rules regarding pics should be?x

There are times to stay put, and what you want will come to you.
But there are times to go out into the world and find such a thing for yourself.
I aint no abacus but you can count on me.

The rules on pics are fine by me.
Just to say, I agree with the way things are. I believe I saw SGs sig pic before it was removed and although I didnt report it myself, I remember thinking it was rather triggering/glamorising thinness.

now youve asked that im not too sure.... i understand what you've said in the way the different things trigger different people and think your explanation has changed how i feel about this matter. Im sorry that i didnt pm you or another mod to talk about this and am sorry for breaking the rules
sorry for causing disruption to the board and stuff, i wont be posting any more on the subject.

thank you for getting back to me griddlebone
