Phone packages for those on benefits

Yesterday I discovered that there's some cheaper broadband and phone packages for those of us who are on benefits. In the case of bt it's means tested so you need to be on jsa/esa/universal credit so pip doesn't count. So far I can only find details for packages on bt and virgin media. I dont think it includes TV but tbh unless you want bt sport you can find most premium content on now tv/Netflix/amazon which you can take out separately if you wish. In the case of virgin media it's only for people who are existing customers on universal credit. I have applied for the bt package as I am already with them so if I am successful it should save me a fair bit.

More info here (bt)

Yes I didnt know either. The phone companies aren't exactly publicising it as I only found out about bt due to a Facebook post about it. Apparently bt's scheme has been around since September last year.

I will report more if I am definitely successful if once I get billed for January. I haven't been billed yet.

I have been successful. My bill is now considerably lower than before.

That's awesome Dawn! We have a couple of programs like that where I live. I get 50$ a month off of my monthly internet bill, and I just applied for assistance with my water bill too.

Please do not give me virtual hugs unless you are only using the hug function on threads. Thanks.

Sky are doing an similar deal for existing customers who are on universal credit or pension credit. It doesn't include their tv or even phone calls (bt includes calls) however. Unlike bt it's an 18 month contract (bt is 12 months) and you pay the same amount regardless of whether you have fibre or not. Personally I dont think it's a good deal but I thought I would make people aware in case they wanted it.
