Never been in that situation but doesn't sound pleasant!!

I hate it when people spout homophobic crap then don't understand why I/others are offended by it.

I am currently:
^^YES.
Whenever someone says something sexist or homophobic I go,
'I don't get it, can you please explain the joke?' in a really friendly way. Then if they've said something insipid like 'what is she doing out of the kitchen?' they then have to awkwardly explain to everyone how they think that women belong in the kitchen and they lose a lot of face.

I am driven to unholy levels of rage by loud chewers and keyboard clackers.
