General Medical Question - Non Urgent - *overdose* tinnitus

ok.. basically.. i overdosed in january and february, and got really bad ringing in my ears because of them. it got a little bit better as time went on but i have a bit of a cold and cough now, and it seems to have got a lot worse again. it's a constant high-pitched ringing sound which is driving me crazy! also, when i'm led down i get like a deep pulsing sound and if i stand up too quickly i get a kind of wooshing sound, like if you put a shell to your ear. i told my ed psychologist about this and he said he thinksi ought to see my gp, but i don't want my parents to know because i've spent the past like 5 months trying to convince them that the od's weren't as bad as they thought cos they worry about anything and everything. i live in the middle of nowhere so i can't get to the drs on my own (there's no buses or anything) and i really don't like my gp anyway (especially as she's not too hot on confidentiality). so yeah.. i hope that made a little bit of sense, and i'm basically wondering if anyone could maybe let me know if they have any ideas or anything that might help stop it or what they reckon i should do.

cheers, emilie xx

*H*U*G*S* to you Hunni!!
I don't really know what to suggest, but definately think going to the Dr for a check would be a good idea!!
Ringing in your ears isnt a good sign, and as your ears are really important (play a part in balance etc.) its a good idea to look after them.
Dont know what other advice to say, and I'm not one of the first aid team and so dont take my advice for certain.
Hope you feel better soon!! -X-

I'm no professional so don't take my word for this, but I doubt it would be anything to do with the ODs seeing as they occured quite a few months ago now. It's more likely to be something to do with an ED or a cold/other virus.
But yeah, whatever the reason behind it, it's not a good thing to be happening so it's best to go see your GP anyway.

An OD can cause tinnitus, and anything that affects your ears could make it worse. So if you have a cold and your sinuses are congested it could make it worse.

It is a good idea to talk with your GP about it since it has been going on for so long, tinnitus can be an indicator of more serious ear problems.

Well it breaks my heart to see you this way,
The beauty in life, where's it gone?
And somebody told me you were doing okay,
Somehow I guess they were wrong.

heya, ive got permanant tinnitus as a result of past ods. My dr refered me for tests to get an actual diagnosis but unfortunately there isnt much that can be done for it. The only way i half-manage it is with masking techniques which are things like background noise - i always have my earphones with me, tv on in the background etc. I know that when i get ill or stressed it becomes much worse to the point that i get actual headaches from it. I dont know if any of this mite help you, but i suggest ure first port of call would be to see ure dr as it may not be related to the ods at all.

Having been in the 'middle of nowhere' due to my college course on a number of occasions (or at college itself lol) I know how it may be difficult. Could you not get one of your friends to give you a lift there or maybe ask one of your parents to but see if they can stay outside the room. They should respect your wishes if you point out that they wouldn't want you there to hear about all of their medical problems! If that GP isn't too hot on confidentiality, which they can be reported for, you could always see a different one within the practice, there are usually a few to choose from (depending where your actual practice is of course,if it is in the middle of a farming community then maybe not) but as everyone's said above it is probably a good idea to get it looked at to see if you have any other problems going on at the moment and if there is anything they can do to help.

ok, just an update.. i've been playing up my cough a bit so my mum decided she was concerned - thought it might have been a chest infection, so she booked me a drs appointment for that and took me there.. haha, cunning! then i sent her off to the chemist while i went in. and said, yeh, my chest is fine but it's my ears that's the problem! lol

basically he said it'll probably just go away on its own eventually but go back if it gets worse. apparently my ears are now more susceptible to that kinda thing from the ods but it's not directly related and likely to just have been made worse by the cold etc.

thank you for all the advice and stuff everyone :) very grateful xx
