Have To Get A Filling
Hello my rotten dentist said I have to have a rotten filling and I?m hugely unimpressed.
I am being a big baby about it as the last time I had injections in my mouth was when I got a bunch of teeth taken out as a child because my mouth is too small :P and I have awful memories of that.
Please send sympathy and/or suggestions of how to manage and/or fake my own death to avoid the dentist. Please do not send horror stories of dentists or information that I won?t like, e.g. it?s quite uncomfortable, even if it?s true.
Thanks!

unsure we have any suggestions other than we hope you are able to get it over with as soon as possible and it goes as smoothly as possible.
it's definitely not like it would be to have multiple teeth removed and should be a lot simpler and hopefully quicker than that. can you have someone go with you or take some comfort items or anything with you if that would help?
we haven't seen a dentist in at least a decade so we totally get it being a scary thing, and we think you are v brave to see the dentist and to get it done. <3

The very rude thing about teeth that need a dentist is the fact that it becomes quite unbearable very fast if you don't get it done :(
The pain of the process has an end. The same can't be said for trying to ignore the rude tooth.
In almost every case, the pain can be managed with ordinary painkillers afterwards. The injection with the anaestethic is unpleasant but it's fast.
If the dentist is rude you have my personal permission to bite their finger!!!!

Thoughts and prayers
But seriously, i had a bad extraction when i was a kid and i was TERRIFIED of the dentist for years. Like that was when i was 10, i refused to go to the dentist again until i was around 25???
Needed fillings, root canal and recently had a tooth out.
And honestly, i get nervous every time, but it's NEVER as bad as i think or remembered as a child. Every time, even with the extraction, i have thought 'oh, is it done?!' Because i was expecting way worse!

I'm fine! Totally fine. I don't know why it's coming out all loud and squeaky, 'cause really, I'm fine!
Who else is fine?!?!?

Thank you all very much! And Lio who provided emotional support when I was dramatic about it via message too :P
I don't think anyone going with me would help but I wonder if I'd be allowed to listen to something on my headphones while they did it so I'd be distracted?
Thank you very much for the permission to bite the dentist Zurg :P
It's in like two weeks so over soon I guess.

I'm sure they'd let you listen to something.
There's a dentist at my practice who does hypnotism but that freaks me out!
Sending good wishes.

asking to listen to something sounds pretty reasonable. maybe worst case scenario they'd let you play it without headphones if those were an issue for some reason?
can you plan to go home and rest after so you don't have to worry about doing anything stressful once it's over?
two weeks isn't the worst wait ever. glad it won't get dragged out too long to stress over more.

Music on headphones is a win. I’ve done that a couple times and then agree that if something hurts, you raise your hand and they stop.

In case anyone requires an update this was totally fine????? I was terrified about all the injections in my gums but turns out they only do that with little kids who can't be trusted not to jump or fidget so I just had one big old injection in the back of my cheek which obviously wasn't pleasant but also wasn't anything like my stressful memories of childhood dental procedures.
10/10 outing to the tooth vet, would recommend to a friend!
