Positive recovery post - Advice if possible...?
Okay so I know I haven't been here in a long time and I'm sorry about that, I'm after some recovery advice if possible? So I finally went to my GPS for help with my depression and self harm, but I'm kind of hitting a wall. Apparently a new guideline has been put into place that requires people to be sh free for 3-6 months depending on the area you are in. Has anyone ever heard of this or have any advice on how to deal with these "guidelines"? I'm really struggling and I don't know how to get over this illness without some sort of support. I'm really sorry to ask for help after not being here for so long but I didn't really know who else to ask....thanks in advancem

I'm currently under a liaison worker for the cmht, and they will not refer me on to anyone until I'm 3 months. Cbt for example. According to my last "no one will touch you till you stop"

Sounds a bit odd. Have you asked why?
There are services in my area that don't deal with service users who currently self harm or have recently attempted suicide but the general MHT do for obvious reasons; it's like asking someone to help themselves before you've given them the skills otherwise.

I did ask why and he said it's just new guidelines. But it's like asking an alcoholic to give up before they go into rehab....I'm so worried that when I go for my next appointment today they are just going to say that's it till you stop. Which is what he warned me could happen.

I really don't understand that...
Are there any charities that could support you in the meantime? Mind for example?

I'm waiting on a charity in my town called teamwork, they will give me some counselling. My appointment went as expected, he wants to change my meds because they aren't working anymore and he will talk to the psychiatrist about seeing me but it's very, very unlikely. And that was it pretty much.

That's complete crap. It's can't possibly national as I'm currently under treatment under my local CMHT and have recently been self-harming.
I don't know what to suggest but it strikes me that something is wrong here.

I'm not even under the cmht, apparently they won't take me either...they only deal with long and enduring illnesses. I've had this for 15 years so I wood like to know their definition of long and enduring.

I also agree that speaking to PALS is a good idea as hopefully they will be able to get to the bottom of why you're not being given help.
