Well I am only doing one module this semester and next semester so it's a book a week at most.

Although at the moment it's all poetry and secondary sources. For some reason this week I had to read an in depth description of the Enclosure Laws, still not sure why.

Night Cat, hope the paperwork isn't too tedious!

Hey again Carmen, still awake *seeks sleepy glitter*. What're your plans for the rest of the day?

Yeas, sleep is good. What's your paper on?

I am currently looking at my textbook but taking none of it in.

Ooh very Sherlock like investigation then! I like the process of elimination aspect.

That is very irresponsible of him to expect you to complete a paper by a given time frame when you don't have the correct materials with which to do that. Can you do anymore on it or can you set it aside and work on something else if this is causing you stress (which it totally would me!) rather than wasting a lot of emotional and physical energy on this paper you can't do. How bloody frustrating!! Has he contacted your other course mates?

Doing the blood aspect of the cardiovascular system at the moment and reading about WBC's (white blood cells). I'm making notes in the hope that I will understand that a bit now and understand more when I go over them and consolidate them down to post it notes ( I love post its)

Ah hat is really annoying. You are asking for good reason, they've set you an impossible question to answer. Like giving you the wrong exam paper on a topic you've never studied (they actually did that to my best friend). Yeas, you've done everything you can.

Index cards I would have to keep super tidy and would probably never write on them for fear of messing them up! I haven't been able to concentrate on anything in days so thought something would be better than nothing. I have a headache and feel like I will be sick so going to lie down in the dark now, see if that helps, up in 3 hours.

Hope your project isn't too stress inducing and you manage sleep

Carmen that situation sounds awful.

Tonks, index cards are the best. Its how I do my revision notes then I make people quiz me and wander round attached to them for weeks.

I dissociated and woke up in a compromising position. Decided I didnt feel well enough to go to the workshop I have been dreading. So I spent all day asleep which is unheard of but now I am feeling really guilty and lazy and theres no way Ill sleep tonight. And Ive achieved no uni work all day so am going to try and do some essay research now.

This thread escalated quickly!

Carmen, that really doesn't sound particularly helpful of your uni, could you contact the others who have chosen that group of minerals? Or perhaps try and go and see them in person to force them to help you. I hope you manage to figure it out.

I hope you manage to sleep Tonks, it really sounds like you need to have some rest.

Lillie, I'm sorry you had such an awful day, but please try and not feel guilty and don't be too hard on yourself. It sounds like you made the right decision by not going to the workshop, it also sounds like you really needed the sleep. Perhaps you can start with the uni work tomorrow and have a well deserved rest today?

I also dissociated in the middle of a lecture today and felt awful after and missed the lecture. But I avoided anything self destructive. I'm really struggling to stay grounded in lectures, does anyone have any ideas? It's very frustrating making the effort to go to a lecture which is difficult anyway, then it being totally pointless because I don't remember it. I'm really finding it hard to know how to deal with this. Sorry guys...

Ive done some work Hannah, read and made notes on a review or my essay. Always find its best to start off with a review. Feel a bit better for having done something.

Hannah love sorry to hear that, I can struggle with the same thing too. I employ a number of techniques to help. I take mints or aniseed balls to suck on (I dont like aniseed so it works well), I take water and wear perfume to sif on my wrists etc. I ind taking notes helpful as well as you have to concentrate- even if the notes themselves dont make a lot of sense. Do you have a voice recorder you could use so if you do zone out you can listen again?

I'm glad you managed to do some work Lillie and you feel a bit better for it. I hope you manage to sleep tonight as well. Do you have anything nice planned this evening/tonight?

Carmen, when is the paper due in? I really hope it goes well for you x

Thank you Lillie and Carmen for your ideas also, i never thought of aniseed before Lillie, I don't like it either! I may try that. I usually take gum and a weird stretchy gooey thing to touch and wear perfume also. A lot of the time it doesn't seem strong enough to work, or i don't have the time/capacity to realise that I should be using these technqiue's I'm not sure if that makes sense really. The lectures are recorded though so I can listen to them later when I feel safer. Thank you for your suggestions.

Im watching csi cyber, its a new csi and Im quite in to it.

Maybe you could make the effort to do something grounding every 5-10 minutes at the moment so that way things are unlikely to lead to full blown dissociation? And maybe its worth thinking on triggers and warning signs?

Thanks guys, I will try using the grounding techniques throughout the lecture instead of at certain points. I do them before the lecture too. Thank you for all you ideas :)

I love CSI! I've never heard of the cyber one though, but it sounds good.

Just a warning about voice recorders, legally you need permission from the lecturers to use them (If you get DSA you automatically have permission in some settings), someone got told off at my uni recently for hiding one and sharing it out with other students without the lecturers permission.

It's one they brought out just before they cancelled the original series, I can't get into it sadly.

UK lecturers are weird about stuff like this. Something to do with legal issues/their right to privacy of their voices being put in places they don't want them, not that every student uploads lectures online or anything. Which is why they usually only let you use one if you are a disabled student who is required to use one. Or if you have broken a hand or something.

That and it encourages students to attend lectures.

Upon further googling (and avoiding bed) the rules vary from uni to uni apparently, there are some that record the lectures themselves and make them available and others that say 'do it without permission and you will be thrown out.' which is extreme.

Yeah, I'm not saying don't do it, I'm just saying that you need to check that the university/lecturers are ok with you recording. If they refuse without good reason though and it is in your Disability report thingy they are technically breaking the Equality Act.

The other issue also depends on the content of lectures as there can be sensitive material on some courses.

TBH its not really an issue for most lecturers- you just ask beforehand. And Hannah said her lectures were recorded anyway.

Ah I must have missed that then. Well I did miss it.

I just know there have been a few instances around the UK where students have been in trouble for not having permission to record lectures and distributing them around other students so just didn't want anyone to fall into that trap.

Yeah all my lectures are recorded. It's literally the best thing ever, I'm really grateful. I think we're the only school at the uni who record the lectures though. They make a massive thing at the beginning of each letter than we can't distribute the recordings etc. I've never heard it being a problem though.

How is everyone today?
