Housing Benefit Question...

Hi guys,

Just a quick question about housing benefit. I've just started a new job, and I've been given four weeks extra to cover between my benefits stopping and my wages coming in.

I have been told I'll be paid up until the 27th, but does HB get paid in advance or for the fortnight before? For example; am I going to get paid on the 14th for the two weeks between 14th and 27th or will I be paid on the 28th for the fornight previous?

I hope that makes some sense, and that someone can help me out.

As far as I know, housing benefit is always paid 2 weeks in arrears. You could always ring your councils housing benefit office and ask them when the money will be released to you.

My housing benefit is paid 4 weeks in arrears. Sorry if this causes any confusion for you.

It might be worth ringing them up as yours may be paid differently.

Does in arrears mean it'll be for the one after or the one before? I don't understand what it means >.<

I'll try calling them tomorrow.

Four weeks in arrears means four weeks behind.

So, if I get it up until the 27th, I'll get my last payment on the 14th..?

So your rent comes is due on X date. It will be four week after if I am correct, that HB will pay. Thats how mine works anyway.

Erm...okay. I think.

So my rent is paid on the 19th of each month, and HB is paid fortnightly. They said I'd be paid up until the 27th of October. So I should get four weeks worth after my rent payment..?

Sorry, I know I sound completely thick, I just really don't understand and I'm trying to budget/work out how much over time I need to do >.<
